Shiyou Zhao et al.

Summary: In this research, CDA-g-PLLA was prepared with a low glass transition temperature by using CDA and L-LA under different process conditions. The graft copolymerization of CDA and PLLA improved the thermal processing performance of CDA by decreasing its glass transition temperature. The highest grafting rate was achieved at a L-LA/CDA mass ratio of 4:1, a reaction temperature of 150 degrees C, and a reaction time of 90 min.

Tailoring Oligomeric Plasticizers for Polylactide through Structural Control

Wenxiang Xuan et al.

Summary: Structural variations were used to tailor the performance of biobased plasticizers for polylactide (PLA), including thermal stability, plasticizing efficiency, and migration resistance. Different plasticizers with varying structures showed different properties. Plasticizers based on 1,4-butanediol decreased the glass-transition temperature and increased the strain at break of PLA, while those based on isosorbide exhibited better thermal stability and migration resistance. Plasticizers with levulinate ester end groups had improved thermal stability, plasticizing efficiency, and migration resistance compared to those with hydroxyl end groups.

Summary: In this study, a series of copolyester plasticizers were designed and synthesized. By characterizing their plasticizing performance, it was found that the side chain groups in the copolyester had a significant influence on its plasticizing effect. Among them, PVC plasticized by polybutylene succinate exhibited a lower glass transition temperature and higher elongation at break compared to traditional plasticizers. The obtained copolyester plasticizers also showed improved solvent extraction resistance and compatibility with PVC.

Toxicity Assessment of an Anti-Cancer Drug of p-Toluene Sulfonamide in Zebrafish Larvae Based on Cardiovascular and Locomotion Activities

Andrew Yau Wah Young et al.

Summary: This study investigated the potential cardio and neural toxicity of p-Toluene sulfonamide (p-TSA) in sublethal concentrations using zebrafish as an in vivo animal model. The results showed that the overall toxicity of p-TSA was relatively low in zebrafish larvae, with minor alterations observed in the cardiac rhythm and physiology. However, acute exposure to p-TSA significantly increased locomotion activity, while prolonged exposure reduced the locomotor startle reflex activities in zebrafish. The study also revealed higher respiratory rate and blood flow velocity in acutely treated fish groups. Molecular docking analysis provided insights into the potential molecular mechanism of p-TSA on observed altered responses and minor altered vascular performance in zebrafish larvae.
