Aging and Gait Function: Examination of Multiple Factors that Influence Gait Variability

Hope E. Gamwell et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between variations in the normal gait cycle and parameters of reduced functionality in older adults. The results showed that older adults had poorer ankle muscle function, higher force variability, and deficits in walking parameters, which may be associated with age-related deterioration in central motor control. Participation in physical activity was identified as a means to maintain gait quality and independence.

Insole-Based Systems for Health Monitoring: Current Solutions and Research Challenges

Sophini Subramaniam et al.

Summary: Wearable health monitoring devices can measure various physiological parameters to provide information about an individual's health and well-being. Insole-based sensor systems, such as those measuring PPD, can offer a comprehensive understanding of an individual's health without interrupting daily activities. This review discusses existing solutions and future considerations for fully integrated insole-based health monitoring systems.

The Smart-Insole Dataset: Gait Analysis Using Wearable Sensors with a Focus on Elderly and Parkinson's Patients

Chariklia Chatzaki et al.

Summary: Gait analysis is crucial for detecting and managing various neurological and musculoskeletal disorders. The Smart-Insole Dataset is introduced for the development and evaluation of computational methods focusing on gait analysis. The dataset includes data from pressure sensor insoles and has been used to discriminate between different groups and verify assumptions regarding gait characteristics in elderly and Parkinson's disease patients.
