Catalytic amounts of CBr4 mediated dehydrogenative coupling of isochromans with aromatic ketones

In the presence of catalytic amounts of CBr4 (a metal-free mediator), an unexpected oxidative dehydrogenative coupling of isochromans with ketones occurred to construct new C-sp3-C-sp3 bonds. The reactions were performed under simple solvent-free aerobic conditions.
