Enantioselective Hydroalkenylation and Hydroalkynylation of Alkenes Enabled by a Transient Directing Group: Catalyst Generality through Rigidification

Amit Kumar Simlandy et al.

Summary: We report a transient directing group (TDG) strategy for site-selective palladium-catalyzed reductive Heck-type hydroalkenylation and hydroalkynylation of alkenylaldehydes using alkenyl and alkynyl bromides. This strategy allows for the construction of a stereocenter at the delta-position with respect to the aldehyde. Computational studies reveal the beneficial roles of rigid TDGs, such as L-tert-leucine, in promoting TDG binding and inducing high levels of enantioselectivity in alkene insertion.

Summary: This Review presents the progress in catalytic enantioselective mono- and difunctionalization of alkenes, with a focus on the fundamental role of ligands. Various types of asymmetric reactions involving different bond formation, such as C-O, C-N, and C-C bonds, have been developed. The urgency to discover new ligands and synthetic methodologies is emphasized to enhance control over reaction selectivity and activity, and to expand the applications in the synthesis of heterocyclic scaffolds and biologically active compounds.

Asymmetric Hydrosilylation of β-Silyl Styrenes Catalyzed by a Chiral Palladium Complex

Yi-Fan Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a palladium complex coordinated with a chiral SIPHOS ligand was evaluated as an efficient catalyst for asymmetric hydrosilylation reaction. The results showed that good to excellent enantioselectivities could be obtained in the hydrosilylation reaction of 1-aryl-2-silyl ethanols with selectively converted trichlorosilyl groups. Additionally, stable and high-yielding 1,2-bis(silyl) chiral compounds could be produced through the asymmetric hydrosilylation of beta-silyl styrenes followed by methylation of the trichlorosilyl group.

Enantioselective hydroamination of unactivated terminal alkenes

Senjie Ma et al.

Summary: Asymmetric alkene hydroamination reactions often have limited synthetic value due to the requirement of excess alkene, limited enantioselectivity, and low tolerance towards functional groups. In this study, an enantioselective and intermolecular hydroamination reaction of unactivated terminal alkenes was developed, which occurs with equimolar amounts of alkene and amine, shows high tolerance towards functional groups, and yields products with high enantioselectivity and turnover numbers.

Palladium(II)-Catalyzed Enantioselective Hydrooxygenation of Unactivated Terminal Alkenes

Xintuo Yang et al.

Summary: A novel Pd(II)-catalyzed enantioselective Markovnikov hydrooxygenation of unactivated terminal alkenes using a substituted pyridinyl oxazoline (Pyox) ligand has been developed. The (EtO)(2)MeSiH/BQ redox system is crucial for the highly selective and efficient hydrooxygenation, where alkylpalladium(II) species generated from enantioselective oxypalladation step is reduced by silane. This method provides an efficient access to optically pure alcohol esters from easily available alkenes with excellent enantioselectivities and features a broad substrate scope.
