Comparison of a practice-based versus theory-based training program for conducting vacuum-assisted deliveries: a randomized-controlled trial

Julian Marschalek et al.

Summary: This study compared the effectiveness of practice-based and theory-based training programs for vacuum-assisted deliveries (VAD). It found that while both programs led to immediate improvement in skills, the practice-based program resulted in superior retention of skills 4-8 weeks after training.

Multi-Modal Deep Learning for Assessing Surgeon Technical Skill

Kevin Kasa et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a new dataset and a multi-modal deep learning model for surgical knot-tying assessment. The study shows that the three models perform comparably to expert human raters, with the multi-modal model achieving the best overall performance. This work demonstrates the potential of multi-modal deep learning in replicating human raters on a challenging surgical task.
