TOWARD A CONFIGURAL THEORY OF JOB DEMANDS AND RESOURCES

Wei Jee Ong et al.

Summary: Job demands-resources research has mainly used a variable-centered approach, which cannot detect different configurations of demands and resources that may lead to the same outcomes. We took a person-centered theoretical approach and found three equifinal configurations that are sufficient to produce exhaustion: high workload and emotional demands, low social support, and high workload and low autonomy. Our findings suggest that certain job demands may only be buffered by specific resources and that some configurations of demands cannot be buffered at all.

WHY ACTIVIST HEDGE FUNDS TARGET SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE FIRMS: THE REACTION COSTS OF SIGNALING CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Mark R. DesJardine et al.

Summary: Our study explores how unintended audiences can create reaction costs for firms using corporate social responsibility (CSR) as a signal. We found that activist hedge funds perceive CSR as a signal of wasteful intentions and capabilities, leading them to target firms with higher levels of CSR and imposing reaction costs on these firms. Additionally, our research suggests that the relationship is weaker in industries with high levels of CSR and stronger when firms' financial communication is unclear.

Mariana Giovanna Andrade-Rojas et al.

Summary: This study examines how firms' information management capabilities and collaboration network structures influence the structure of competition networks, suggesting that taking a brokerage position in competition networks has a positive impact on firm performance. It also proposes that information management capability and central positions in collaboration networks act as substitutes in competition networks, with empirical evidence supporting these direct and substitution effects.
