Novel associations between inflammation- related proteins and adiposity: A targeted proteomics approach across four population- based studies

Mariana Ponce-de-Leon et al.

Summary: This study investigated the association between obesity and inflammation-related proteins in European populations and identified 14 novel proteins associated with adiposity. The majority of these proteins were found to be associated with visceral fat and adipose tissue accumulation in the abdomen and trunk.

Proteomic Profiles of Body Mass Index and Waist-to-Hip Ratio and Their Role in Incidence of Diabetes

Xue Bao et al.

Summary: This study examines the differences in plasma proteomic profiles between body mass index (BMI) and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), and their associations with the incidence of diabetes. It is found that WHR-specific proteins are associated with diabetes risk, while BMI-specific proteins are not.

Associations of Adiposity, Circulating Protein Biomarkers, and Risk of Major Vascular Diseases

Yuanjie Pang et al.

Summary: This subcohort study of 628 Chinese adults found that body mass index was positively associated with multiple protein biomarkers, some of which were also associated with the risk of cardiovascular disease. These findings suggest that proteins may partly explain the link between obesity and cardiovascular disease.

Large-scale integration of the plasma proteome with genetics and disease

Egil Ferkingstad et al.

Summary: Genome-wide association studies of plasma protein levels in Icelanders have identified numerous associations with diseases and other traits, providing valuable insights into disease pathogenesis and potential drug targets. Through integration of proteomics, genomics, and transcriptomics, this research offers a resource for improving disease understanding and aiding drug discovery and development.

Effects of adiposity on the human plasma proteome: observational and Mendelian randomisation estimates

Lucy J. Goudswaard et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of body mass index (BMI) on circulating proteins and finds a broad impact of adiposity on the human proteome. Proteins strongly altered by BMI include those involved in regulating appetite, sex hormones, and inflammation, and are enriched for genes associated with cardiovascular disease. The results highlight new proteomic signatures of obesity-related disease.
