Characterizing coarse sediment grain size variability along the upper Sandy River, Oregon, via UAV remote sensing

Eric S. Levenson et al.

Summary: This article evaluates the hypothesis that multiscale observations of fluvial physical characteristics can enable more detailed analyses of fluvial process and conceptual models relating local conditions to downstream trends. The study maps the distribution of coarse sediment within gravel bars and analyzes grain size variability at different scales in relation to active channel width. The results show an inverse correlation between grain size and channel width, with limited application of downstream fining models on the upper Sandy River at scales finer than a few kilometers.
