Visible Light Photocatalysis of TiO2 Complexed with Albumin via a Ligand-to-Metal Charge Transfer (LMCT) Pathway

Min Sun Kim et al.

Summary: In this study, albumin was used as a model protein to investigate its complex with TiO2 for visible light photocatalysis. The surface adsorption of albumin on TiO2 was confirmed, and a ligand-to-metal charge transfer process was identified between albumin and TiO2. The albumin/TiO2 complex exhibited significant reductive conversion of Cr(VI) to Cr(III) and production of H2O2 under visible light irradiation.

Visible-Light Activation of a Dissolved Organic Matter-TiO2 Complex Mediated via Ligand-to-Metal Charge Transfer

Hoang Tran Bui et al.

Summary: In this study, the photoactivity of humic acid/TiO2 complexes (HA/TiO2) under visible light was investigated. The complexes exhibited photoactivity through ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT), resulting in the generation of H2O2 in the conduction band. The presence of phenolic groups in the complexes was found to play a key role in visible-light absorption and H2O2 photogeneration. The photochemical formation of H2O2 in river waters spiked with TiO2 was significantly elevated due to the LMCT contribution. These findings provide chemical insights into the photocatalytic activity and potential ecotoxicity of TiO2 in environmental and engineered systems.

Root hair growth from the pH point of view

Anett Steger et al.

Summary: Root hairs are tubular outgrowths of epidermal cells that enhance root efficiency in water and nutrient absorption. Their growth is associated with pH oscillations and changes in reactive oxygen species (ROS) and cytoplasmic Ca2+ concentrations. While the role of pH as a growth signal in root hairs is not fully understood, it has been shown to play an important role in pollen tube growth.

Elevated Temperatures Decrease the Photodegradation Rate of Pyrethroid Insecticides on Spinach Leaves: Implications for the Effect of Climate Warming

Nannan Xi et al.

Summary: The study found that the photodegradation temperature had minor effects on pyrethroid photodegradation, but the photodegradation rates decreased with increasing spinach growth temperature. This work provides new insight into the effects of climate warming on the generation of reactive oxygen species and the transformation of pesticides on a plant leaf.

Dissolution and Retention Process of CeO2 Nanoparticles in Soil with Dynamic Redox Conditions

Chunlei Jiao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the dissolution and retention of CeO2 nanoparticles in soil under dynamic redox conditions, highlighting the influence of occasional reductive conditions on the migration and diffusion of Ce species. Results showed that reductant-induced initial reductive conditions led to temporary reductive dissolution of Ce(IV), followed by slow retention, while dissolution and retention were not significant without added reductant. XANES analysis revealed that most Ce species existed as Ce(IV) after long-term aging, indicating that soil redox conditions determined the behavior of CeO2 NPs. Time-course studies are important for understanding nano-soil interactions.

Dissolution and Aggregation of Metal Oxide Nanoparticles in Root Exudates and Soil Leachate: Implications for Nanoagrochemical Application

Pabel Cervantes-Aviles et al.

Summary: The study has revealed that the dissolution, aggregation, and stability of nanoagrochemicals in root exudates and soil leachate are influenced by various factors including the adsorption of organic acids and the charge of particle surfaces. Additionally, different types of nanoparticles exhibit different behaviors in different media, which will have significant impacts on the bioavailability and delivery mechanisms of nanoagrochemicals.
