Insights into the toxicities of UV-328, UV-329, UV-P in HepG2 cells and their roles in AHR-mediated pathway

Shengxian Liang et al.

Summary: In this study, the toxicity of three benzotriazole ultraviolet stabilizers (BUVSs) was investigated using HepG2 cells. The results showed that the three BUVSs displayed weak cytotoxicity, with UV-P being the most toxic, followed by UV-329 and UV-328. Moreover, UV-P and UV-329 exhibited agonistic activity towards AHR and upregulated the expression of diabetic related genes.

Distribution and Fate of Ultraviolet Absorbents and IndustrialAntioxidants in the St. Lawrence River, Quebec, Canada

Abigaelle Dalpe Castilloux et al.

Summary: The study on the St. Lawrence River showed that BHTQ was the dominant contaminant in dissolved water, and sediment had higher sorption capacities for most target contaminants compared to SPM. Different contamination profiles were found in lake sturgeon and northern pike, indicating that the accumulation of UVAs and IAs in fish depends on their feeding behavior.

Serpin Signatures in Prion and Alzheimer's Diseases

Marco Zattoni et al.

Summary: This study investigated the differential expression of serpin superfamily members in neurodegenerative diseases. The results showed dysregulation of SERPINB1, SERPINB6, SERPING1, SERPINH1, and SERPINI1 in sCJD individuals compared to controls, while only SERPINB1 was upregulated in AD patients. Additionally, SerpinA3n transcript and protein were upregulated in a mouse model of AD. These findings suggest that SERPINA3/SerpinA3n may be a potential therapeutic target for the treatment of prion and prion-like neurodegenerative diseases.

Concentrations, Compound Profiles, and Possible Sources of Organic UV Filters in Human Milk in China

Yang Liu et al.

Summary: This study conducted the first large-scale investigation of UV filters in human milk, identifying plastic products and sunscreens as the main sources of UV filters in Chinese breast milk samples. The concentrations of UV filters varied among different provinces, highlighting the need for further risk assessment.

44-Year Retrospective Analysis of Ultraviolet Absorbents and Industrial Antioxidants in Seabird Eggs from the Canadian Arctic (1975 to 2019)

Jennifer F. Provencher et al.

Summary: This study investigated the distribution and variability of UV absorbents and industrial antioxidants in Arctic wildlife by using archived egg samples from three seabird species collected between 1975 and 2019. The results showed higher levels of UV absorbents and industrial antioxidants in black-legged kittiwakes compared to the other species. Most of the target contaminants did not significantly vary over time, and there was no recent increase in their concentrations. The antioxidant BHT was the most frequently detected contaminant, and its level declined in kittiwake eggs over the study period.

Occurrence and Temporal Trends of Benzotriazole UV Stabilizers in Mollusks (2010-2018) from the Chinese Bohai Sea Revealed by Target, Suspect, and Nontarget Screening Analysis

Pengyang Li et al.

Summary: This study comprehensively explored the temporal trends of benzotriazole UV stabilizers (BZT-UVs) in mollusks collected from the Chinese Bohai Sea between 2010 and 2018 using a combination of target, suspect, and nontarget screening analysis. Significant residue levels of the target analytes were found, with a gradual decrease in total concentrations of BZT-UVs. The relative abundance of UV-327 increased during the study period.

Molecular and behavioral responses of zebrafish embryos/larvae after sertraline exposure

Huiting Yang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the behavioral and molecular responses in larval fish following exposure to different concentrations of SER. It was found that exposure to SER altered the behavior of early-stage zebrafish, with changes in locomotor activity and dark-avoidance. Additionally, an increase in mRNA levels of serotonin transporter and serotonin receptor 2c was observed in fish exposed to 10 μg/L SER.

An analytical survey of benzotriazole UV stabilizers in plastic products and their endocrine-disrupting potential via human estrogen and androgen receptors

Yuuta Sakuragi et al.

Summary: This study measured the concentrations of nine representative BUVSs in plastic bottle caps, food packages, and plastic shopping bags purchased from Japanese grocery stores, and found that eight BUVSs were detected in these plastic products, with UV-P and UV-326 detected in all bottle caps at relatively high concentrations. Additionally, the study characterized the agonistic and/or antagonistic activities of 13 BUVSs against human estrogen receptors and androgen receptor, revealing potential endocrine-disrupting effects.
