Lake Water Quality and Dynamics Assessment during 1990-2020 (A Case Study: Chao Lake, China)

Chuan Li et al.

Summary: Coastal and lakeside settlements, which are heavily populated, are at immediate risk due to climate change and human activities. This study analyzed the water changes in Chao Lake over the past 30 years using time-series images and water indices. The results showed an increase in each estimated indicator's value over time, with the largest fluctuations observed in winter and the smallest in fall. The study also found a strong correlation between the estimated factors, particularly between GNDVI and NDTI. The findings can contribute to environmental planning and efforts to reduce water pollution and environmental hazards in Chao Lake and other water regions.

Temporal dynamics of Campylobacter and Arcobacter in a freshwater lake that receives fecal inputs from migratory geese

Mayumi Kobayashi et al.

Summary: Migratory geese can have significant impacts on water quality and public health by affecting the microbiological composition and nutrient levels in freshwater lakes. They are likely to be a major source of Campylobacter bacteria in the lake, while the occurrence of Arcobacter group bacteria is not directly related to the presence of geese. The nutrient inputs provided by geese can lead to eutrophication and lower dissolved oxygen concentrations, indirectly impacting the indigenous microbial population of the lake.

Similar assembly mechanisms but distinct co-occurrence patterns of free-living vs. particle-attached bacterial communities across different habitats and seasons in shallow, eutrophic Lake Taihu

Zhen Shen et al.

Summary: Eutrophication in lake ecosystems due to nitrogen and phosphorus input is a growing concern. Free-living (FL) and particle-attached (PA) bacterial communities play key roles in biogeochemical processes and response to eutrophication. Environmental factors shape community structure, while different factors influence bacterial functional composition, with deterministic processes primarily affecting community assembly.
