Engineered Nanomaterials Suppress the Soft Rot Disease (Rhizopus stolonifer) and Slow Down the Loss of Nutrient in Sweet Potato

Lin-Jiang Pang et al.

Summary: Approximately 45% of the world's fruit and vegetables are wasted, leading to postharvest losses and economic losses from $10 billion to $100 billion globally. Soft rot disease caused by Rhizopus stolonifer affects postharvest storage of sweet potatoes. Utilizing CuO nanoparticles at 50 mg/L showed the best antifungal properties in the prevention of postharvest losses due to Rhizopus soft rot disease in sweet potatoes.

Antifungal Activity of Propyl Disulfide from Neem (Azadirachta indica) in Vapor and Agar Diffusion Assays against Anthracnose Pathogens (Colletotrichum gloeosporioides and Colletotrichum acutatum) in Mango Fruit

Muhammad Rafiullah Khan et al.

Summary: The study showed that neem plant extract (PD) has a significant inhibitory effect on the fungi causing anthracnose in mangoes, suggesting its potential as an alternative to current fungicides. The antifungal activity of PD increased with higher concentrations, and the vapor diffusion assay was more effective in inhibiting fungal growth than the agar diffusion assay. The experimental data fit well in the Gompertz growth model, demonstrating the strong antifungal efficacy of PD against a wide range of microorganisms.

Synthesis of green and pure copper oxide nanoparticles using two plant resources via solid-state route and their phytotoxicity assessment

Iman Khaldari et al.

Summary: In this study, green tea and lavender leaf tissues were successfully used in the solid-state method for biosynthesis of CuO NPs, with lavender showing higher productivity in synthesizing pure and uniform CuO NPs. Comparison between biogenic and chemically synthesized CuO NPs revealed that both types had less inhibitory effects on seed germination factors of lettuce and tomato seeds at higher concentrations, but were effective in promoting root and shoot growth at lower concentrations.
