Development of ZnO/SnO2/rGO hybrid nanocomposites for effective photocatalytic degradation of toxic dye pollutants from aquatic ecosystems

Jeyakumar Saranya Packialakshmi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of ZnO/SnO2/reduced graphene oxide nanocomposites (ZnO/SnO2/rGO NCs) on the improved photocatalytic degradation of organic dye pollution. The developed ternary nanocomposites possess various characteristics, including crystallinity, charge carrier recombination, energy gap, and surface morphologies. The addition of rGO reduces the optical band gap energy of ZnO/SnO2, thereby enhancing the photocatalytic activity. The ZnO/SnO2/rGO nanocomposites demonstrate exceptional effectiveness in degrading orange II (99.8%) and reactive red 120 dye (97.02%) under sunlight exposure.

A review on superior advanced oxidation and photocatalytic degradation techniques for perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) elimination from wastewater

Zakariyya Uba Zango et al.

Summary: This article summarizes the research progress on the formation mechanism of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) in wastewater, the reasons why it cannot be effectively treated by conventional methods, and the application of advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) and photocatalytic degradation techniques for PFOA removal. The study found that the active radicals generated by AOPs and the photogenerated species of the photocatalytic process can effectively attack PFOA molecules, leading to its efficient degradation and the formation of shorter-chain perfluorinated carboxylic acids. Eventually, PFOA is completely mineralized to carbon dioxide and fluoride ion. The prospects and challenges of these techniques are also discussed.

Engineering S-scheme Ag2CO3/g-c3N4 heterojunctions sonochemically to eradicate Rhodamine B dye under solar irradiation

Ali Alsulmi et al.

Summary: This research work demonstrated the use of S-scheme Ag2CO3/g-C3N4 heterojunctions for the remediation of Rhodamine B dye under natural sunlight irradiation. The deposition of spherical Ag2CO3 nanoparticles on the surface of g-C3N4 sheets significantly improved the electron-hole separation efficiency and absorption capacity of the photocatalysts. The heterojunctions containing 5 wt% Ag2CO3 and 95 wt% g-C3N4 degraded Rhodamine B dye three times faster than pristine g-C3N4 nanosheets. This study contributes to the development of efficient and low-cost wastewater treatment using S-scheme heterojunctions under natural solar irradiation.
