Trivalent antimony removal using carbonaceous nanomaterial loaded with zero-valent bimetal (iron/copper) and their effect on seed growth

Jianghao Ji et al.

Summary: This study developed a new nanomaterial, sludge biochar loaded with zero-valent bimetal, to remove trivalent antimony from water. The adsorption performance and influencing factors of three different nanomaterials were investigated. The results showed that the nanomaterial loaded with zero-valent bimetal had the best adsorption performance at a solution pH of 3. The adsorption process was endothermic and the presence of coexisting ions inhibited the adsorption. Additionally, the nanomaterials promoted seed germination and growth. The study also found that the removal of trivalent antimony was achieved through the synergistic action of adsorption behavior and redox reaction.

Effects of Foliar Application of ZnO Nanoparticles on Lentil Production, Stress Level and Nutritional Seed Quality under Field Conditions

Marek Kolencik et al.

Summary: Nanotechnology provides new opportunities for improving technology and industry in agriculture. This study investigated the effects of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NP) on lentil plants. The results showed that ZnO-NP positively affected yield and number of pods per plant, but did not significantly alter the nutrient and anti-nutrient content in the seeds. However, ZnO-NP did impact the water stress level and resulted in changes in stomatal conductance, crop water stress index, and plant temperature. These findings suggest that foliar application of low ZnO-NP concentrations can increase crop production and is a viable strategy for sustainable agriculture.
