Bifunctional nickel foam composite cathode co-modified with CoFe@NC and CNTs for electrocatalytic degradation of atrazine over wide pH range

Xiuping Sun et al.

Summary: A bifunctional composite cathode was prepared for efficient degradation of atrazine under near-neutral conditions, showing high removal efficiencies over a wide pH range and good stability. The study proposed degradation pathways and catalytic mechanisms, and demonstrated the gradual decrease in toxicity during the degradation process, providing new insights for the development of efficient and stable bifunctional cathodes for pollutant removal.

O- and F-doped porous carbon bifunctional catalyst derived from polyvinylidene fluoride for sulfamerazine removal in the metal-free electro-Fenton process

Yang Li et al.

Summary: Heteroatom-doped carbon materials can activate H2O2 during the metal-free electro-Fenton process, but the simultaneous generation and activation of H2O2 with bifunctional catalysts is rare. In this study, O- and F-doped porous carbon cathode materials were prepared and showed optimal electrocatalytic performance for H2O2 generation and activation. The PVDF-derived carbonaceous catalysts exhibited excellent performance and stability in SMR removal during the metal-free EF process.

Selective Electrocatalytic Reduction of Oxygen to Hydroxyl Radicals via 3-Electron Pathway with FeCo Alloy Encapsulated Carbon Aerogel for Fast and Complete Removing Pollutants

Fan Xiao et al.

Summary: A new strategy of generating hydroxyl radicals from electrocatalytic reduction of oxygen has been reported, showing fast and complete removal of ciprofloxacin with high degradation rate and stability. This approach involves tuning the electronic environment to regulate electrocatalytic activity, achieving results comparable to state-of-the-art advanced oxidation processes.

Highly efficient metal-free electro-Fenton degradation of organic contaminants on a bifunctional catalyst

Xin Qin et al.

Summary: In this study, a metal-free e-Fenton system using O-doped carbon nanotubes (OCNTs) as the bifunctional metal-free cathode was designed for the degradation of organic pollutants. The system demonstrated excellent performance under neutral conditions, with a phenol degradation kinetic constant of 0.071 min-1 and a TOC removal rate of 76.6% within 300 min. This in-situ metal-free e-Fenton system shows promise as a strategy for actual wastewater treatment, with a specific energy consumption lower than reported heterogeneous electro-Fenton systems.
