Facile Fabrication of Oxygen-Defective ZnO Nanoplates for Enhanced Photocatalytic Degradation of Methylene Blue and In Vitro Antibacterial Activity

Sujeong Kim et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the photoactivity of catalysts with defects. ZnO nanoplates with varying degrees of defects were prepared in a short time by adjusting the crystal growth temperature. The presence of oxygen vacancies in the nanoplates was confirmed, and it was found that ZnO nanoplates with fewer oxygen vacancies showed better decomposition of methylene blue dye and antibacterial performance.

Removal of lead ions from wastewater using lanthanum sulfide nanoparticle decorated over magnetic graphene oxide

Shahabaldin Rezania et al.

Summary: A new lanthanum sulfide nanoparticle was synthesized and incorporated onto magnetic graphene oxide sheets to create a potential adsorbent for efficient removal of lead ions from wastewater. The synthesized adsorbent was characterized and parameters such as pH, dosage, contact time, concentration, and temperature were studied. The Langmuir isotherm model showed the best fit with a maximum adsorption capacity of 123.46 mg/g, indicating a monolayer adsorption pattern. The pseudo-second-order kinetic model best described the adsorption rate, while the thermodynamic model suggested a chemisorption and physisorption adsorption mechanism at different temperatures.
