Hierarchically Ordered Macro-Mesoporous Electrocatalyst with Hydrophilic Surface for Efficient Oxygen Reduction Reaction

Wen Yao et al.

Summary: An etching-functionalization strategy was developed to construct a tannic-acid-functionalized MOF with a unique hollow-wall and 3D-ordered macroporous structure. This MOF can be further used as a precursor for the synthesis of cobalt supported on oxygen/nitrogen co-doped carbon composites with H-3DOM structures and hydrophilic surface. The resulting catalyst exhibits high electrocatalytic activity in the oxygen reduction reaction.

ZIF-8 modified graphene oxide/sodium alginate 3D elastic spheres for uranium trapping in seawater

Xue Chang et al.

Summary: Due to the rising demand for uranium resources caused by the popularization of nuclear energy and technology, extracting uranium from seawater has become a hot topic. A three-dimensional carbon structure material (GO/ZIF-8@SA) with ionic stress elastic expansion was developed for uranium capture, consisting of graphene oxide, ZIF-8, and sodium alginate. The material demonstrated ultra-high adsorption capacity and selectivity for U(VI) in seawater, and its expanded microspheres could be directly captured from the seawater, solving the issue of balancing adsorption capacity and selectivity in a complex seawater environment.

Correction to the thermodynamic calculation using the Langmuir isotherm model by Saeed et al. (2022)

Xueyong Zhou et al.

Summary: In this study, the thermodynamic parameters of dye adsorption process were recalculated using the correct method. The results indicated that the adsorption of methylene blue and methyl orange onto CS/MOF-235 is spontaneous and leads to an increase in randomness. The negative enthalpy and positive entropy suggest that both factors contribute to the adsorption process.

Ramesh Kumar et al.

Summary: In this study, the use of humic acid for pretreating lignocellulosic biomass in alkaline conditions was successfully applied to separate lignin and hydrolyzable biocomponents. The resulting biomass hydrolysate was then converted into ethanol through enzymatic saccharification and yeast fermentation. The ethanol product was then separated and concentrated using membrane distillation, yielding a high flux of ethanol.
