Selenium Ameliorated Oxidized Fish Oil-Induced Lipotoxicity via the Inhibition of Mitochondrial Oxidative Stress, Remodeling of Usp4-Mediated Deubiquitination, and Stabilization of Ppar alpha

Dian-Guang Zhang et al.

Summary: Studies show that high selenium supplementation can alleviate oxidized fish oil-induced lipotoxicity, oxidative stress, and mitochondrial injury. They have also uncovered a new mechanism by which selenium interacts with oxidized fish oil to affect lipid metabolism via the Txnrd2-mtROS-Usp4-Ppar alpha pathway.

Influences of five dietary manganese sources on growth, feed utilization, lipid metabolism, antioxidant capacity, inflammatory response and endoplasmic reticulum stress in yellow catfish intestine

Jie-Jie Xu et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of five dietary manganese sources on the growth, feed utilization, lipid metabolism, antioxidant capacity, inflammatory response, and endoplasmic reticulum stress in the intestinal tissues of yellow catfish. Organic manganese supplements (Mn-Gly and Mn-MHA) improved the growth, feed utilization, intestinal health, inflammatory responses, and antioxidant capacity of yellow catfish. These supplements also reduced endoplasmic reticulum stress.

The role of miRNA-26a-5p and target gene socs1a in flutolanil induced hepatotoxicity of zebrafish at environmental relevant levels

Yang Yang et al.

Summary: Flutolanil has been found in aquatic environment and fish worldwide, causing stress on ecosystem and human health. The toxic effects of Flutolanil on aquatic organisms are known, but the underlying pathophysiological and molecular mechanisms remain unclear. This study demonstrates that Flutolanil can cause hepatotoxicity in HepG2 cells and zebrafish, leading to liver damage and dysfunction. The exposure to environmental levels of Flutolanil disrupts the expressions of miRNA-26a-5p and its target gene socs1a, which is partially responsible for hepatotoxicity, correlated with oxidative stress, cell apoptosis, inflammation, cell cycle disorder, and mitochondrial dysfunction. The findings suggest that miRNA-26a-5p/socs1a can serve as potential biomarkers for hepatotoxicity in zebrafish exposed to Flutolanil.

Mitochondria-Dependent Oxidative Stress Mediates ZnO Nanoparticle (ZnO NP)-Induced Mitophagy and Lipotoxicity in Freshwater Teleost Fish

Guang-Hui Chen et al.

Summary: ZnO NPs are widely used and distributed in the environment, yet their toxicities and mechanisms on physiological processes and metabolism remain largely unknown. This study found that dietary ZnO NPs disturbed hepatic Zn metabolism, increased Zn and lipid accumulation, induced oxidative stress, and activated mitophagy. Suppression of mitochondrial oxidative stress attenuated ZnO NP-induced mitophagy and lipotoxicity.

Sirt3-Sod2-mROS-Mediated Manganese Triggered Hepatic Mitochondrial Dysfunction and Lipotoxicity in a Freshwater Teleost

Tao Zhao et al.

Summary: Excessive manganese can be toxic to humans and animals, but its effects and mechanisms on vertebrates have been overlooked. This study found that dietary manganese overload led to hepatic lipotoxicity through mitochondrial dysfunction caused by oxidative stress and acetylation of Sod2 mediated by Mtf1/sirt3. These findings provide important insights into the toxicological and environmental evaluation of manganese in aquatic environments.

CD36 promotes de novo lipogenesis in hepatocytes through INSIG2-dependent SREBP1 processing

Han Zeng et al.

Summary: This study found that CD36 plays a role in the development of NAFLD by facilitating the uptake of free fatty acids and enhancing de novo lipogenesis in hepatocytes. CD36 forms a complex with INSIG2, disrupting the interaction between SCAP and INSIG2, leading to the translocation of SREBP1 for processing. These findings provide new evidence for targeting CD36 as a potential therapeutic approach for NAFLD.

N, N-dimethylformamide exposure induced liver abnormal mitophagy by targeting miR-92a-1-5p-BNIP3L pathway in vivo and vitro

Lin Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, we found that DMF could induce abnormal autophagy flux and lethal mitophagy in cells, resulting in autophagic cell death. miR-92a-1-5p was identified as the most down-regulated miRNA upon DMF exposure and it regulated mitochondrial function and mitophagy by targeting mitochondrial protein BNIP3L. Exogenous miR-92a-1-5p significantly attenuated DMF-induced mitochondrial dysfunction and mitophagy both in vitro and in vivo.

microRNA-92a promotes CNS autoimmunity by modulating the regulatory and inflammatory T cell balance

Mai Fujiwara et al.

Summary: This study reveals the crucial role of microRNA-92a (miR-92a) in central nervous system autoimmune diseases. Elevated miR-92a level in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) contributes to the progression of the disease, while loss of miR-92a attenuates EAE. Mechanistically, miR-92a restricts the induction and suppressive capacity of regulatory T cells (Tregs), while supporting the responses of inflammatory T cells (Th17) by targeting the transcription factor Foxo1. Additionally, miR-92a inhibitor therapy improves EAE by enhancing Treg responses and suppressing inflammatory T cell responses.
