Influence of water matrix on the degradation of organic micropollutants by ozone based processes: A review on oxidant scavenging mechanism

Anam Asghar et al.

Summary: The prevalence of organic micropollutants in aquatic environment has led to efforts in retrofitting existing wastewater treatment plants. However, the degradation of these pollutants through ozone-based processes faces challenges due to the presence of matrix compounds and variations in pH. Further research on the matrix effects is crucial to understand the degradation of organic micropollutants.

Degradation of commercial glyphosate-based herbicide via advanced oxidative processes in aqueous media and phytotoxicity evaluation using maize seeds

Victor E. C. da Silva et al.

Summary: Glyphosate is a widely used herbicide that poses a threat to the environment and human health. This study evaluated the effectiveness of various oxidative processes in degrading glyphosate and analyzed the phytotoxicological effects of the oxidation products on maize seed germination. The photoelectro-Fenton treatment was found to be the most effective in degrading glyphosate and generating non-toxic by-products. Maize seed germination was not adversely affected by the oxidation products. However, a stimulatory effect of glyphosate was observed at low concentrations.

The potential of rock dust nanoparticles to improve seed germination and seedling vigor of native species: A review

Annabel Arnott et al.

Summary: The use of rock dust nanoparticles (RDNPs) as a nanopriming agent can improve seed germination and seedling vigor of native boreal forest species for mine reclamation purposes. Nanopriming techniques show promising results in improving germination percentage (GP) and seedling vigor index (SVI), indicating the potential for enhancing land reclamation using native plants.

Ozone-based water treatment (O3, O3/UV, O3/H2O2) for removal of organic micropollutants, bacteria inactivation and regrowth prevention

Ana M. Gorito et al.

Summary: Ozone-based water treatments proved to be effective in simultaneously removing organic micropollutants and bacteria from surface water samples. Single ozonation was found to be the best treatment solution with removal efficiencies higher than 85% for most OMPs, as well as achieving microbial inactivation to levels below permissible levels for drinking water.
