Nanobubble aeration enhanced wastewater treatment and bioenergy generation in constructed wetlands coupled with microbial fuel cells

Tao Lyu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the feasibility of coupling nanobubble technology with constructed wetlands for treating livestock wastewater. The results showed that nanobubble-aerated CWs achieved significantly higher removal efficiencies of TOC and NH4+-N compared to traditional aeration treatment and the control group. The MFCs embedded in the nanobubble-aerated CWs also harvested a much higher electricity energy. These findings suggest that nanobubble technology has the potential to enhance the capacity of constructed wetlands for water treatment and energy recovery.

Peroxymonosulfate activated by photocatalytic fuel cell with g-C3N4/BiOI/Ti photoanode to enhance rhodamine B degradation and electricity generation

Yundong Zeng et al.

Summary: A visible-light responsive PFC with g-C3N4/BiOI/Ti photoanode was proposed and showed excellent performance in degrading rhodamine B, with a degradation rate of 95.39%, maximum power density of 103.87 μW cm(-2), and maximum photocurrent density of 0.62 mA cm(-2), which were significantly higher than traditional PFC. The enhanced performance was attributed to the production of more reactive oxygen species and the extension of the reaction space range after the activation of PMS.

Roles of reactive oxygen species in antibiotic resistant bacteria inactivation and micropollutant degradation in Fenton and photo-Fenton processes

Yunus Ahmed et al.

Summary: This study investigates the roles of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the simultaneous removal of antibiotic resistant bacteria (ARB) and recalcitrant micropollutants using three processes: conventional Fenton, photo-Fenton, and EDDS modified photo-Fenton. Various ROS were generated and confirmed to contribute to bacterial inactivation and micropollutant degradation. The results showed that the EDDS modified photo-Fenton process had the highest removal efficiency. The hydroxyl radical played a dominant role, while singlet oxygen and superoxide radical anion exhibited moderate effects in removing hazards.
