Functional characterization of four Hsp70 genes involved in high-temperature tolerance in Aphis aurantii (Hemiptera: Aphididae)

Shan-Yuan Tan et al.

Summary: This study identified four heat shock protein 70 (Hsp70) genes that are highly expressed in tea aphids after heat shock. The expression of these genes was significantly up-regulated at high temperature, and their ATPase activity was also enhanced, indicating their important role in heat tolerance in tea aphids.

Molecular characterization of six heat shock protein 70 genes from Arma chinensis and their expression patterns in response to temperature stress

Jian-Yu Meng et al.

Summary: In this study, six Hsp70 genes were cloned from A. chinensis, an important predatory enemy of agricultural and forest pests. The expression patterns of these genes in different developmental stages and tissues were analyzed. The results showed that these Hsp70 genes play important roles in thermal adaptation and have different responses to temperature stress.

Summary: Water pollution is a serious problem. This study investigated the toxic effects of Cu and Zn ions on G. affinis by analyzing the changes in gene expression. The results showed that Cu and Zn have strong toxic effects on G. affinis. Furthermore, the study identified different gene expression patterns in different tissues of G. affinis exposed to Cu and Zn ions.

Honey as a Functional Food for Apis mellifera

May R. Berenbaum et al.

Summary: Nectar is consumed by a wide range of insects, but only bees and wasps in the superfamily Apoidea process and store it. Honey produced by Apis mellifera has unique properties that serve various functions like protecting bees against pathogens, toxins, and cold stress, as well as regulating development and adult longevity. The process of honey making in A. mellifera involves incorporation of exogenous material and endogenous products, indicating that honey is more than just a source of carbohydrates for bees.

Nitrogen and plant growth regulator affect plant detoxification metabolism and tritrophic interactions among Triticum aestivum, Sitobion avenae and Aphelinus asychis

Ning Di et al.

Summary: Application of different concentrations of nitrogen fertilizers and IAA can significantly increase leaf area of wheat seedlings, but does not necessarily lead to heavier Sitobion avenae. Treatment with high concentrations of nitrogen fertilizer and low concentrations of IAA result in larger aphids with higher activity of metabolic enzymes.
