Summary: Despite being important agricultural pests, the impact of soil types on Heliothinae soil pupation is understudied. We found that fine-textured clay soils have a negative effect on pupal survivorship, depth, and weight compared to coarse sand or high organic muck soils. Additionally, diapause characteristics varied by location and year.
