Child serum metabolome and traffic-related air pollution exposure in pregnancy

Beate Ritz et al.

Summary: This study investigated the metabolic effects of air pollution exposure during pregnancy on neonates and found that neonates exposed to air pollution exhibit alterations in oxidative stress and inflammation pathways related to lipid metabolism.

Firsthand and Secondhand Exposure Levels of Maltol-Flavored Electronic Nicotine Delivery System Vapors Disrupt Amino Acid Metabolism

Zachery R. Jarrell et al.

Summary: The study found that maltol-flavored ENDS vapors exposure can impact lung cell metabolism, especially in amino acid metabolism and oxidative stress. Similar effects were observed in both firsthand and secondhand exposure, highlighting the need for systematic investigation of the effects of flavored ENDS vapors on lung metabolism.

A scalable workflow to characterize the human exposome

Xin Hu et al.

Summary: The authors have developed a workflow for mass spectrometry-based untargeted exposome profiling of both known and unknown environmental chemicals. The method addresses the challenge of complementing the genome with an understanding of the human exposome and overcomes limitations in targeted environmental chemical analysis. This approach allows for quantification of environmental chemicals in human samples with high resolution and sensitivity, without the need for prior knowledge of chemical identity.
