Effects of the probability of pulse-like ground motions on landslide susceptibility assessment in near-fault areas

Jing Liu et al.

Summary: This study considered the probability of pulse-like ground motion caused by earthquakes as a factor affecting landslide susceptibility assessment. The results showed that the model considering the pulse-like effect performed better in susceptibility assessment and can be applied in disaster prevention, mitigation, and construction planning in near-fault areas.

Investigation of permanent displacements of near-fault seismic slopes by a general sliding block model

Yingbin Zhang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of seismic activity on permanent displacements of slopes near fault lines. It was found that excitation, vertical ground motions, and slope azimuth all have significant influences on the computed displacements.

Modeling of earthquake-induced landslide distributions based on the active fault parameters

Chi-Wen Chen et al.

Summary: Earthquake-induced landslides can cause significant damage and casualties in mountainous areas. This study examined recent cases in Japan to understand the relationship between landslide distribution and active faults parameters. Based on their findings, the researchers developed a methodology to estimate the potential distribution of landslides caused by reverse and strike-slip fault earthquakes.

A novel approach to probabilistic seismic landslide hazard mapping using Monte Carlo simulations

Chao Li et al.

Summary: Earthquake-triggered landslides can cause significant losses and therefore, seismic landslide hazard maps are important for land use planning and hazard reduction in active tectonic areas. This study proposes a comprehensive probabilistic seismic landslide hazard mapping approach that considers slope properties and displacement prediction uncertainties. The results of the proposed approach show smaller hazardous zones compared to deterministic analyses, and the predicted hazardous zones are sensitive to the resolution of the digital elevation model and probability distributions of soil properties.

Hazard assessment of earthquake-induced landslides by using permanent displacement model considering near-fault pulse-like ground motions

Jing Liu et al.

Summary: This study compared the effects of different models on pulse-like ground motions using the Northridge earthquake as an example and confirmed the significant influence of PLGM on earthquake-induced landslides. The results showed that PDM models composed of PLGM had higher accuracy in evaluation. Applying the ELHA method considering PLGM along the Sichuan-Tibet Railway predicted more landslide cells, with 8.45% of slopes in the extremely high hazard area.
