A Review on the Modeling of the Elastic Modulus and Yield Stress of Polymers and Polymer Nanocomposites: Effect of Temperature, Loading Rate and Porosity

Reema H. Alasfar et al.

Summary: Porous polymer-based nanocomposites are widely used due to their advantages such as multi-functionalities, easy manufacturability, and low cost. Understanding the mechanical properties of these materials is crucial for their applications and efficiency. This review paper focuses on the modeling of the mechanical properties of porous polymer-based nanocomposites, including the effects of loading rates, operational temperatures, and porosity. Experimental techniques and applications are also discussed.

Mechanical behavior of polycrystals: Coupled in situ DIC-EBSD analysis of pure copper under tensile test

J. P. Goulmy et al.

Summary: Understanding the mechanisms at the microstructure scale is crucial for modeling material behavior. This study explores the use of high resolution digital image correlation (HRDIC) combined with in situ Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) tests to establish a connection between polycrystalline modeling and experiment. The tensile behavior of a pure copper polycrystal is evaluated using HRDIC, and the impact of grain orientation on mechanical behavior is discussed through EBSD analysis.

In-situ TEM observation of the ITB evolution in aluminum deformation twinning

Kang Yan et al.

Summary: Deformation twinning is an important phenomenon in the plastic deformation of metals and alloys, alongside dislocation slip. In this study, the plastic deformation behavior of coarse-grained aluminum with high stacking fault energy was investigated using in-situ tensile TEM. The findings reveal that deformation twins occur at the crack tip under continuous applied stress, with the thickness of deformation twin increasing as incoherent twin boundaries (ITBs) appear. Analysis shows that Frank partial dislocation in deformation twins decompose into perfect dislocation and Shockley partial dislocation under applied stress. These dislocations slip along crystal planes and react to form dislocation combinations that constitute the ITBs. The results provide researchers with a new perspective on the role of ITBs in deformation twinning and the formation of dislocation combinations in ITBs.

Effect of feed quantity on breakage degree of ore particles subjected to high voltage pulses

Binglei Li et al.

Summary: The effect of feed sample spatial arrangement on the breakage degree of high voltage pulse breakage (HVPB) product was investigated, with results indicating that the fineness of HVPB product increases with feed quantity while the pre-weakening degree decreases. A new index of equivalent product fineness was introduced to represent the overall breakage degree, showing a positive correlation with feed quantity.

Investigation of thermal properties of crystalline alpha quartz by employing different interatomic potentials: A molecular dynamic study

Fatemeh Molaei et al.

Summary: The thermal properties of crystalline alpha-quartz were studied using NEMD simulation method, showing that thermal conductivities calculated using ReaxFF and BKS force fields are more accurate and exhibit better agreement with experimental values at higher temperatures. Additionally, Tersoff and SW force fields corroborated experimental findings for thermal expansion coefficient (TEC) and showed smaller magnitude of TEC in the z direction.
