A two-phase simulation for analyzing the hydraulic-thermal performance of Cu-Water nanofluid within a tube enhanced with W- and C-shaped ribs

Yuan Zhou et al.

Summary: This study numerically investigated the thermal performance of Cu-water nanofluid flow within an enhanced tube with W-and C-shaped ribs in heat exchangers. The effects of volume fraction and diameter of copper nanoparticles and the type and size of turbulators on heat transfer were discussed. The results showed that the W-shaped model had different performance characteristics compared to the C-shaped model.

Entropy generation of turbulent Cu-water nanofluid flows inside thermal systems equipped with transverse-cut twisted turbulators

M. E. Nakhchi et al.

Summary: In this study, numerical simulations were conducted on the thermal characteristics and second-law analysis of turbulent Cu-H2O nanofluid flow in heat exchangers with transverse-cut twisted tapes (TCTTs) fitted by alternate axis. The simulations showed that TCTTs with a transverse-cut ratio of 0.7 generated higher turbulent kinetic energy compared to those with a ratio of 0.9, with an increase in nanofluid volume concentration leading to a reduction in thermal entropy generation.

State-of-the-art review of nanofluids in solar collectors: A review based on the type of the dispersed nanoparticles

Qingang Xiong et al.

Summary: Nanofluids, as a new generation of fluids, have shown to be more suitable for heat transfer applications compared to conventional fluids, with the type of nanoparticles dispersed being a key parameter. This review focuses on the different types of particles used in nanofluid research, particularly in solar collectors, exploring their impact on heat transfer and the classification of nanoparticles. Studies suggest that Al2O3-based nanofluids are widely considered in solar collectors, with non-metallic based nanofluids potentially more efficient for enhancement. Negative aspects such as thermo-physical instability and reduced efficiency at high nanoparticle volume fraction are also highlighted, along with suggestions for future research directions.
