Impact of harsh weather conditions on solar photovoltaic cell temperature: Experimental analysis and thermal-optical modeling

Aslan Gholami et al.

Summary: This study investigated the main parameters affecting the temperature of photovoltaic panel cells and defined their independent and simultaneous impacts. It was found that cell temperature depends on irradiation, ambient temperature, humidity, wind speed, and the amount of accumulated dust on the surface of a panel. Based on experimental and analytical analysis, five semi-empirical correlation forms were proposed to predict cell temperature with high accuracy. Additionally, thermal-optical modeling was used to simulate temperature distributions under different environmental conditions, confirming the consistency of the results.

Predicting solar photovoltaic electrical output under variable environmental conditions: Modified semi-empirical correlations for dust

Aslan Gholami et al.

Summary: The current study investigates the simultaneous impacts of dust and other environmental parameters on cell temperature and electrical outputs of photovoltaic systems. Linear and polynomial semi-empirical correlation forms are proposed based on experimental and analytical analysis. It is shown that cell temperature is directly influenced by irradiation and ambient temperature, as well as inversely influenced by humidity, wind speed, and accumulated dust. The study demonstrates the effect of dust on current loss, with a variation of up to 28%, while the impact on output voltage is minimal (<0.5% reduction). The proposed correlation forms provide accurate predictions for output current, voltage, and power, with simplicity and computational efficiency. They can be easily integrated with other models to improve precision and accuracy.

Dust impact on photovoltaic/thermal system in harsh weather conditions

Hussein A. Kazem et al.

Summary: Dust accumulation on photovoltaic/thermal (PVT) modules leads to decreased productivity and increased temperature. This study compared the performance of periodically cleaned and polluted PVT systems with a conventional PV system. The results showed that accumulated dust caused a decrease in average productivity, and the longer the exposure period, the more dust accumulated and the larger the energy losses. Periodic cleaning of the PVT system restored most of its performance and minimized energy losses.
