Economic comparison of 4GDH and 5GDH systems - Using a case study

Oddgeir Gudmundsson et al.

Summary: This paper analyzes the levelized cost of heat (LCOH) for a mixed building area with different heating solutions in two countries: DK and UK. The analysis explores the impact of heat source temperature on the LCOH, finding that 4GDH is the more competitive heat supply solution for the considered case.

A review of the current status and development of 5GDHC and characterization of a novel shared energy system

J. O. N. A. S. LINDHE et al.

Summary: This review presents the current status and future prospects of shared energy systems (SES) and fifth-generation district heating and cooling (5GDHC). It provides an overview of the technical and functional knowledge, including design and development, operational and system architecture, and control and decision support systems. The review also introduces various tools and models for design, simulation, feasibility, control, and transactions related to SES and 5GDHC found in the literature. Additionally, it highlights legal and social barriers that may be overlooked. The review identifies existing research gaps and challenges for the further development of SES and 5GDHC. Finally, a new energy solution in Lund, Sweden, is presented and characterized according to the definitions of 5GDHC and SES.

Design and cost comparison of district heating and cooling (DHC) network configurations using ring topology-A case study

Joseph Maria Jebamalai et al.

Summary: District heating systems are evolving from steam systems to ultra-low temperature systems. Future district heating and cooling networks will integrate low-temperature sources, combined DHC systems, heat and cold storage, and heat pumps at building side. Designing large-scale DHC networks with these features is challenging.

Assessment of district heating and cooling systems transition with respect to future changes in demand profiles and renewable energy supplies

Yichi Zhang et al.

Summary: This study evaluates centralized district heating and cooling systems, ultra-low temperature district heating systems, and bidirectional fifth generation 5GDHC systems in a representative residential community in the Nordic district heating context. The results suggest that in the future low-energy building stock, the increased cooling demand makes the 5GDHC system the most economically attractive choice.

Aerodynamics Effect of Holes in UAV Wings Modified for VTOL Capability

Laith S. Sawaqed et al.

Summary: This research explores the possibility of modifying the X8 Skywalker from a fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicle into a convertiplane. Computational fluid dynamics and wind tunnel experiments were conducted to analyze the performance of different wing configurations. The results indicate that the proposed modifications can generate enough lift despite reducing the wing area, with the filleted hole configuration demonstrating less drag and turbulence effects at low angles of attack.

Current and projected regional economic impacts of heatwaves in Europe

David Garcia-Leon et al.

Summary: Research shows that Europe is facing significant economic losses due to reduced labor productivity caused by heatwaves. Future projections suggest that if no action is taken, these impacts could increase by almost five times by 2060.
