Dynamic evaluation of low-carbon development in China?s power industry and the impact of carbon market policies

Hao Liang et al.

Summary: At the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly, China set clear goals of reaching carbon peak in 2030 and carbon neutrality in 2060. This paper aims to analyze the low-carbon development level of China's power industry and study the impact of carbon market policies on it. The study constructs an evaluation index system and uses various methods to measure the low-carbon development level, analyze its trends and regional characteristics, and assess the impact of carbon market policies. The research findings provide valuable reference and guidance for evaluating the low-carbon development level of China's power industry and improving carbon market policies.

Can low-carbon city construction reduce carbon intensity?Empirical evidence from low-carbon city pilot policy in China

Shibo Zeng et al.

Summary: Low-carbon city pilot policy (LCCP) is an innovative initiative in China that promotes low-carbon transformation and green development, significantly reducing carbon intensity and causing spatial spillover effects. The policy has led to a 0.13% reduction in carbon intensity in pilot cities since 2011, with benefits from urban environmental governance, industrial structure optimization, and urban innovation level improvement. Additionally, neighboring cities have experienced a 0.9% reduction in carbon intensity due to the spatial spillover effect, which decays with distance.

Energy pile-based ground source heat pump system with seasonal solar energy storage

Qijie Ma et al.

Summary: The decarbonization of the building sector has the potential to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. A ground source heat pump system based on energy piles and coupled with seasonal solar energy storage was designed for high-rise residential buildings' heating/cooling demands. An optimal design procedure was developed to consider the constraints of temperature changes in the energy pile and prevent cold build-up in the ground. Numerical evaluations were conducted to assess the system's performance under different ground conditions and heating-dominated climates across China.

Multi-objective optimization of solar-assisted ground-source heat pumps for minimizing life-cycle cost and climate performance in heating-dominated regions

Minwoo Lee et al.

Summary: In this study, multi-objective optimization was conducted to minimize the life-cycle cost and climate performance of solar-assisted ground-source heat pumps (SGSHPs) with serial and parallel configurations. The optimized SGSHP with a parallel configuration exhibited lower life-cycle cost and climate performance by up to 7% and 10%, respectively, compared to that with a serial configuration. Furthermore, as building insulation technology improves, the optimal system size decreases. R134a is the best option for minimizing life-cycle cost, whereas R1234yf is the best option for minimizing climate performance in Helsinki and Stockholm, showing up to a 37% reduction in climate performance.

Improving the Sierpinski carpet model arithmetic to accurately predict the thermal conductivity of fatty acid/carbon composite phase-change materials

Xianghe Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, a new analytic expression is proposed to predict the dimensionless thermal conductivity of fatty acid-carbon materials composite phase-change materials (PCMs). The expression is based on the Sierpinski carpet model, fractal geometry thermal resistance network model, and the principle of weighted average. It overcomes the issue of predicted values deviating considerably from experimental results when the fractal series n is too small. Additionally, an accurate solution for the dimensionless ratio (t+) of carbon materials width to the Sierpinski carpet side length is presented. This algorithm is found to be more reliable than existing models such as the quadratic parallel (QP) prediction model and the Maxwell-Eucken model. The proposed prediction model can be used to predict the effective thermal conductivity of fatty acid-carbon materials.

An enthalpy-based cascaded lattice Boltzmann method for solid-liquid phase-change heat transfer

Qing Liu et al.

Summary: In this paper, a new method called the cascaded lattice Boltzmann (CLB) method is developed for investigating solid-liquid phase-change heat transfer. The method adopts the enthalpy methodology to capture the phase interface and achieves this by modifying the shifting procedure. Numerical results demonstrate the accuracy and reliability of the enthalpy-based CLB method for simulating solid-liquid phase-change heat transfer.

CO2 emissions and energy performance analysis of ground-source and solar-assisted ground-source heat pumps using low-GWP refrigerants

Minwoo Lee et al.

Summary: The adoption of appropriate alternative refrigerants can effectively reduce the energy consumption and CO2 emissions of heat pump systems. However, there is limited investigation on alternative refrigerants for ground-source heat pump (GSHP) and solar-assisted ground-source heat pump (SGSHP) systems, which still use conventional refrigerants. This study compares the life cycle climate performance (LCCP) and primary energy consumption (PEC) of GSHP and SGSHP systems using conventional and alternative refrigerants, and suggests different optimal choices based on regional factors.

Experimental study on temperature control optimization of ground source heat pump horizontal headers

Xusong Tian et al.

Summary: This study investigates the temperature change pattern of horizontal headers under the influence of multiple factors and their impact on the heat exchange capacity of U-tube through a sandbox experiment platform. The results show that buried depth, surface temperature, covering material, and flow in the pipe all have an influence on the horizontal headers. The temperature rise in the horizontal headers leads to refrigerant loss but also enhances the heat exchange of the U-tube.
