A theoretical insight into the mechanism of NO heterogeneous reduction on char surface: The catalytic effect of potassium

Ziyang Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, the catalytic effect of potassium (K) on the heterogeneous reduction of NO over a char surface was investigated using quantum chemistry calculations. The adsorption performance and reaction pathways were determined using density functional theory, both before and after potassium decoration. The results showed that K can enhance the adsorption of NO molecules on the char surface and decrease the reaction energy barriers, indicating its promotion of the chemical reaction. Four reaction pathways were identified, and the thermodynamic and kinetic analysis revealed that the addition of K increased the reaction equilibrium constants and reaction rate constants, respectively. These findings suggest that K can significantly promote the NO heterogeneous reduction by char.

Experimental and kinetics study of NO heterogeneous reduction on semi-coke and its chars: Effects of high-temperature rapid pyrolysis and atmosphere

Pengqian Wang et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the reactivity and kinetics of NO reduction over semi-coke and its rapid pyrolysis chars. The results showed that rapid pyrolysis at around 1100 degrees C can promote NO reduction over semi-coke, while excessive temperatures hinder the reaction. The presence of CO enhances NO reduction, while the addition of oxygen inhibits it.

A superior cerium-tungsten bimetal oxide catalyst with flower-like structure for selective catalytic reduction of NOx by NH3

Xiaoxiang Wang et al.

Summary: A flower-like 0.1%WO3/CeO2 catalyst was fabricated with high-efficiency for the selective reduction of NOx by NH3. The flower-like structure promoted a more uniform dispersion of tungsten species on the support and a stronger interaction between WO3 and CeO2, resulting in increased acid sites and surface vacancies. The catalyst exhibited significant SCR performance, with 90% NOx conversion and 95% N2 selectivity within a wide temperature range. The study provides a new strategy for developing high-efficiency ceria supported NH3-SCR catalyst.

Microscopic mechanism and kinetics of NO heterogeneous reduction on char surface: A density functional theory study

Yi-Feng Chen et al.

Summary: This study used quantum chemistry calculations to reveal the microscopic mechanism of NO heterogeneous reduction on a char surface. The results showed that during the chemisorption process, the char donated electrons to NO and there were two secondary chemisorption stages resulting in the formation of N2 and N2O. The chemisorption of the second NO was determined as the rate-limiting step for NO reduction. The migration of oxygen atoms favored NO reduction, leading to a preferred pathway for N2 formation over N2O.

Mechanism on the effect of sodium on the heterogeneous reduction reaction of NO by Char(N)

Jiancheng Yang et al.

Summary: The addition of sodium in high alkali coal was found to promote the heterogeneous reduction of NO in nitrogen-containing char. Density function theory simulations showed that sodium lowered the reaction energy barriers and increased the exothermicity of the reaction, thereby promoting the reaction. Thermodynamic and kinetic analyses confirmed these findings.

Oxidative torrefaction and torrefaction-based biorefining of biomass: a critical review

Udya Madhavi Aravindi Devaraja et al.

Summary: Torrefaction is an important pretreatment technology for thermochemical biorefinery applications. This study critically reviews recent literature on inert and oxidative torrefaction, and analyzes the performance parameters of torrefaction for different biomass types. The findings suggest that woody biomass can benefit from both oxidative and inert torrefaction, while inert torrefaction is more suitable for agricultural waste and microalgae. The challenges in oxidative torrefaction include high ash content, thermal runaway, temperature control, and reactor scale-up, for which proposed solutions are discussed.

The effect of Cu on NO reduction by char with density functional theory in carbonation stage of calcium looping

Yuzhuo Wang et al.

Summary: This study utilized density functional theory to investigate the effect of copper on NO reduction by char and CO in the carbonation stage of calcium looping. The results showed that copper decreases the possibility of char deactivation and retains a stable promoting effect on NO reduction. Additionally, copper decreases energy barriers for NO reduction by char and CO, as well as CO oxidation by O-2.
