Intensification of CO2 absorption and desorption by metal/non-metal oxide nanoparticles in bubble columns

Fariba Zarei et al.

Summary: In this study, the use of metal/non-metal oxide nanoparticles improved CO2 absorption and desorption in MDEA-based nanofluid. Fe3O4 nanoparticles at 0.01 wt.% concentration showed the best influence on CO2 absorption, while CuO nanoparticles at 0.05 wt.% concentration had higher efficiency in CO2 desorption.

Experimental investigation of microwave-assisted regeneration of carbon-rich aqueous solutions

Ambedkar Balraj et al.

Summary: Solvent-based post combustion carbon capture is the most common technology, but has high energy consumption. Microwave-assisted carbon-rich solvent regeneration is an emerging technology with lower energy consumption. Experimental study shows that lower power level, longer regeneration time, and lower solvent loading result in better solvent regeneration under certain conditions.

Highly Selective Physical/Chemical CO2 Separation by Functionalized Fe3O4Nanoparticles in Hollow Fiber Membrane Contactors: Experimental and Modeling Approaches

Mahboob Rasaie et al.

Summary: In this study, different water-based modified magnetite nanodispersions were prepared to improve the stability and absorption capacity of bare magnetite nanodispersion for selective CO2 separation. All modified nanoparticles showed higher selectivity in CO2 separation compared to bare magnetite nanoparticles. A new and simple model was proposed to evaluate the influence of CO2 inlet concentration and wetting parameter.

Absorption of carbon dioxide in mixture of N-Methyl-2-Pyrrolidone and six different chemical solvents

Masoud Eskandari et al.

Summary: This research investigates the CO2 absorption capacity using a mixture of NMP and six chemical solvents. The results show that the addition of NMP increases the absorption capacity, but has a negative effect on chemical absorbents. TETA and MEA exhibit the best absorption capacity.

Advanced techniques for the capturing and separation of CO2 - A review

O. A. Odunlami et al.

Summary: This review compared the efficiencies of advanced and modern techniques for CO2 capture with those that are already in place. The study found that the combination of ionic liquids and membranes enhances selectivity for efficient CO2 capture, zeolites remove and store CO2 through adsorption, and molten carbonate fuel cells have high CO2 removal efficiencies at high temperatures.

Insights Into the Mass Transfer Mechanisms of Nanofluids: A CO2 Absorption Study

Seyed Zuhair Bolourchian Tabrizi et al.

Summary: The study focused on synthesizing and characterizing alpha-Fe2O3 (hematite) and CuO nanoparticles for the enhancement of CO2 absorption in water-based nanofluids. New parameters were developed to investigate mass transfer mechanisms and revealed an increase in CO2 absorption efficiency. A new hypothesis of absorption trends, known as the electrostatic bulk effect, categorized mechanisms and provided insight into nanofluid stability and component selection standards.

Quantitative Kinetic Model of CO2 Absorption in Aqueous Tertiary Amine Solvents

Xavier Rozanska et al.

Summary: Aqueous tertiary amine solutions are being increasingly employed in industrial CO2 capture operations due to their higher energy efficiency and greater CO2 absorption capacity compared to primary or secondary amines. However, they often exhibit lower CO2 absorption rates, making it important to identify tertiary amines with faster absorption capabilities for practical applications.

Monitoring the effect of surface functionalization on the CO2 capture by graphene oxide/methyl diethanolamine nanofluids

Zongming Zhou et al.

Summary: Research shows that stable suspensions of graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets in MDEA solutions can serve as a potential medium for CO2 absorption. Experimental analyses reveal that GO surface functionalization positively affects CO2 absorption by MDEA-based nanofluids. AI models are designed to predict CO2 solubility in GO/MDEA nanofluids.

Seasonal patterns of greenhouse gas emissions from a forest-to-bog restored site in northern Scotland: Influence of microtopography and vegetation on carbon dioxide and methane dynamics

Valeria Mazzola et al.

Summary: Northern peatlands are crucial for regulating atmospheric greenhouse gas balance, but disturbances like drainage can increase carbon release. Restoration projects are on the rise, but their impact on greenhouse gas emissions, especially in forestry-restored sites, remains unclear. This study in Scotland shows that microtopography plays a key role in greenhouse gas dynamics, with certain vegetation species influencing emissions. The presence of Trichophorum cespitosum leads to higher methane emissions, while restoration practices like terraforming may temporarily increase greenhouse gas emission.
