Influence of backfilling phase change material on thermal performance of precast high-strength concrete energy pile

Ziming Cao et al.

Summary: A study was conducted to compare the thermal performance of precast high-strength concrete (PHC) energy piles backfilled with different materials, including phase change materials (PCMs). The results showed that the thermal performance of PHC energy piles backfilled with PCM-type materials was significantly better than those backfilled with water, especially under intermittent operation. The study also found that enhancing the thermal properties of PCMs and using lower melting temperature PCMs can improve the heat transfer performance of PCM-type backfilled PHC energy piles in the cooling mode. Furthermore, it was concluded that ordinary grout backfill material is more suitable for PHC energy piles under higher groundwater flow velocity.

Investigation of in situ thermomechanical behaviors of soil around an energy pile with flat dilatometer tests

Guozhu Zhang et al.

Summary: This research investigates the thermomechanical behaviors of soil under the influence of an energy pile using DMT tests, revealing significant impacts of temperature changes on soil properties. As ground temperature increases, the stress state and pore water pressure of soil change, leading to higher risk of failure due to potential irreversible deformation.

Thermal performance analysis and assessment of PCM backfilled precast high-strength concrete energy pile under heating and cooling modes of building

Ziming Cao et al.

Summary: This study developed a three-dimensional heat transfer model to investigate the thermal response of PCMB-PHC energy pile under heating and cooling modes, and found that the thermal conductivity, melting temperature, and latent heat of PCMB significantly affect its performance. The results are useful for optimizing the performance of PCMB-PHC energy pile in practical applications.

The performance analysis of energy piles in cross-anisotropic soils

Zhi Yong Ai et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the performance of energy piles in layered cross-anisotropic soils. The thermo-elastic fundamental solution of the soil is obtained using the extended precise integration method and is utilized as the kernel function in the boundary element method. The stiffness matrix equation for the energy pile, considering thermal strain and mechanical loads, is derived using the finite element method. The proposed method is validated through comparisons with in-situ tests and numerical simulations, and parametric analyses are conducted to discuss the influences of pile-soil stiffness ratio, length-diameter ratio, and soil cross-anisotropy on energy pile responses.

Quasi-static interaction between pipe piles and multilayered saturated soft soils with a fractional viscoelastic model

Zhi Yong Ai et al.

Summary: This paper presents an efficient method for analyzing the quasi-static interaction between pipe piles and multilayered saturated soft soils. By simplifying the pipe pile into a 1D compression bar and discretizing it, interaction forces on the inner and outer interfaces are calculated. The correctness of the proposed method is verified by comparing the results with existing literature, and numerical examples are discussed to evaluate the effects of various factors on the interaction between pipe piles and soft soils.

Thermal induced horizontal earth pressure changes of pipe energy piles under multiple heating cycles

Gangqiang Kong et al.

Summary: This study explores the potential use of a pipe pile as a heat exchanger, comparing the thermomechanical characteristics of solid energy pile and pipe energy pile through model tests. It found that thermal cycles affect horizontal earth pressure and redistribution of pile resistance, as well as the thermal contraction of surrounding sandy soil.
