Modified UNet with attention gate and dense skip connection for flow field information prediction with porous media

Yang Yu et al.

Summary: Porous media flow phenomena are common in nature and industry. Traditional numerical methods are limited in their ability to predict flow field information when the pore structures of porous media change. To address this challenge, a new deep learning method based on convolutional neural networks is proposed to directly predict the saturation variation and flow velocity profile of multiphase flow from the structure of porous media.

Numerical study on the effect of microporous layer crack changes on water management in gas diffusion layer of proton exchange membrane fuel cell

Yang Yu et al.

Summary: The existence of the microporous layer (MPL) enhances the transport of reactive gas and liquid water in the gas diffusion layer (GDL) of the proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). However, the effect of MPL surface cracks on liquid water transport in GDL remains unclear. In this study, a three-dimensional volume of fluid (VOF) model is developed to investigate the relationship between MPL cracks and GDL liquid water transport. The results show that the shape, area, width, and depth of MPL cracks affect the water fraction in GDL, especially in the early stage of water inflow.

Numerical Investigation of Tapered Flow Field Configurations for Enhanced Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell Performance

Yulin Wang et al.

Summary: The study proposed a tapered flow field configuration to enhance the performance of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells by improving oxygen transport and water removal. Numerical investigations showed that different LI/O ratios had varying effects on oxygen transport, water removal, and overall cell performance, with an optimal design exhibiting more uniform distributions and improved performance.

Liquid transport in gas diffusion layer of proton exchange membrane fuel cells: Effects of microporous layer cracks

Xin Shi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of crack properties in the micro porous layer (MPL) on liquid water saturation, liquid pathway formation, and two-phase mass transport mechanism in proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC) using a three-dimensional volume of fluid (VOF) model. The results show that the overlap between MPL and gas diffusion layer (GDL) determines the preferred liquid emerging port, while the crack shape has little influence on the liquid water transport.

Investigations on heat and mass transfer in gas diffusion layers of PEMFC with a gas-liquid-solid coupled model

Daokuan Jiao et al.

Summary: In this study, a gas-liquid-solid coupled solver is developed to simultaneously model heat transfer and water transport. By reconstructing the 3D structure of GDL and applying compression deformation during simulation, the impacts of liquid water distribution on heat transfer and the interactions between vapor condensation and heat transfer are deeply investigated. These results are significantly helpful for improving the performance of fuel cells and guiding heat and water management.

Numerical study and prediction of water transfer in gas diffusion layer of proton exchange membrane fuel cells under vibrating conditions

Yang Yu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of vibration on water transfer characteristics in proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) and optimizes the water content in the gas diffusion layer (GDL) using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and machine learning. The findings suggest that vibration has a significant impact on the accumulation and drainage stages of water transfer in the GDL, as well as the overall water content. The developed data-driven model exhibits good predictive performance for water saturation in the GDL.
