Simulation of the secondary air system of turbofan engines: Insights from 1D-3D modeling

Xuesen Yang et al.

Summary: A platform for evaluating the performance of the Secondary Air System (SAS) is developed, focusing on internal flow and heat transfer analysis. A multi-fidelity modeling technique is developed for a turbofan engine under different flight conditions. A turbine blade cooling model integrating external heat transfer calculations and coolant side modeling is proposed. The validity of the SAS models is compared with publicly available data. An elaborately designed cooling system for the AGTF30 engine is analyzed, demonstrating the versatility and flexibility of the SAS models.

Single- and multi-objective optimization of an aircraft hot-air anti-icing system based on Reduced Order Method

Qian Yang et al.

Summary: This study develops an optimization methodology for aircraft hot-air anti-icing systems based on the Reduced Order Method (ROM). By using Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) and Radial Basis Function Neural Network (RBF) to construct the ROM, high-accuracy and computational efficiency in predicting the distribution of surface temperature and runback water are achieved. The developed optimization methodology proves to be efficient and reliable in handling design problems of aircraft piccolo tube hot-air anti-icing systems.

Neural network-based model predictive control with fuzzy-SQP optimization for direct thrust control of turbofan engine

Yangjing Wang et al.

Summary: A nonlinear model predictive control method based on fuzzy-SQP is proposed to improve the accuracy of direct thrust control. The control system includes a predictive model, rolling optimization, online correction, and feedback correction. The fuzzy-SQP algorithm is introduced to prevent local optimization, and an online correction module is added to improve the predictive accuracy. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

A dynamic performance diagnostic method applied to hydrogen powered aero engines operating under transient conditions

Yu-Zhi Chen et al.

Summary: Currently, aero engine fault diagnosis mainly relies on steady-state conditions and does not effectively utilize gas path parameters throughout the entire flight process. This study proposes a sequential diagnostic method that can be applied to fault detection of aero engines under dynamic conditions, and evaluates the economic impact of engine degradation.

Modelling and performance analysis of a recuperated gas turbine with low-Btu fuel

Tianhua Zheng et al.

Summary: Low-Btu fuels like landfill gas and bio-gas are good alternatives to expensive natural gas, and small gas turbines with a recuperator and high-speed generator are widely used in such applications for higher power efficiency. The small gas turbine's quick speed response is due to its low shaft inertia.
