Multi-criteria decision for selecting a wind farm location to supply energy to reverse osmosis devices and produce freshwater using GIS in Iran

Marziyeh Razeghi et al.

Summary: Due to its arid and semi-arid climates, Iran faces high water stress and the urgent need for a solution to utilize saltwater is crucial. This study presents an indirect method to identify areas in Iran that are prone to salinity and have the potential for wind energy to power reverse osmosis desalination devices. Factors such as economics, environment, technology, and geology are considered. The proposed methodology, using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Multiple Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA), can be applied in other countries to identify suitable areas for freshwater production using reverse osmosis technology. Torbat-e-Jam in Khorasan Razavi province is found to have the highest potential for freshwater production among other areas in Iran.

Macro-site selection and obstacle factor extraction of biomass cogeneration based on comprehensive weight method of Game theory

Jing Gao et al.

Summary: This study proposes a site selection decision framework for biomass cogeneration that considers carbon emission reduction. It introduces Game Theory to determine the optimal weight combination and presents a comprehensive measurement method. The study also explores the barriers to improving the site selection environment. Comparative analysis and weight sensitivity analysis verify the feasibility and stability of the framework using five cities in China as examples. The results indicate that carbon emission is the primary barrier factor.

Does carbon pricing reduce emissions? A review of ex-post analyses

Jessica F. Green

Summary: Carbon pricing has been considered essential in climate policies, but studies show that its impact on emissions is limited, with most reductions falling between 0% and 2% per year. Carbon taxes are found to outperform emissions trading schemes, and the EU ETS has only achieved annual reductions ranging from 0% to 1.5%. The evidence suggests that carbon pricing has a limited impact on emissions reduction overall.
