Development of Solutions for Increasing the Combustion Efficiency of Hydrogen in Water Vapor in a Hydrogen-Oxygen Steam Superheater

Andrey Rogalev et al.

Summary: The study aims to investigate the specific features of burning hydrogen with oxygen in a water vapor atmosphere. It seeks to determine the optimal values for diluting the burning mixture with water vapor in the active burnout zone to minimize incomplete combustion. The burning processes were modeled using kinetic mechanisms in the Ansys Chemkin-Pro software, resulting in the definition of the critical water vapor content in the burning mixture and obtaining dependencies of key parameters within a wide range.

Hydrogen liquefaction and storage: Recent progress and perspectives

Tongtong Zhang et al.

Summary: The global energy sector is responsible for 75% of total greenhouse gas emissions. Hydrogen, a low-carbon energy carrier, is considered crucial for transitioning to a decarbonized energy system. The concept of a hydrogen economy is seen as a key part of this transition. Liquid hydrogen, due to its high energy density, ambient storage pressure, purity, and mature technology, is suitable for long-distance transport and has gained increased attention. However, challenges such as energy-intensive liquefaction and hydrogen boil-off losses hinder the development of the liquid hydrogen system. This review focuses on the current state of technology related to the liquid hydrogen supply chain and discusses its potential role in the emerging global hydrogen economy.

Potential of CBM as an Energy Vector in Active Mines and Abandoned Mines in Russia and Europe

Isabel Amez et al.

Summary: The energy sector's contribution to global warming and its reliance on global geopolitics are the main concerns today. Despite reduced coal usage in many countries, recent events such as the COVID-19 crisis, dropping temperatures in Central Asia, and the Russia-Ukraine war have highlighted the continuing importance of coal in this sector. To address this dependency, it is necessary to develop the extraction and industrial use of coal mine methane (CMM) as an unconventional energy resource. Early degassing technology can extract methane from coal seams, reducing emissions, enhancing mine safety, and potentially increasing profitability. However, this technology is understudied and not widely implemented. Additionally, extracted methane is often burned, causing the loss of a valuable unconventional fuel. This study presents different scenarios for the use of coalbed methane (CBM) to reduce pollutant emissions from coal mines. A model was developed to evaluate the economic efficiency of degasification, and an emissions analysis was conducted. The results show that degasification has a negative impact on mine economics, but this can be reversed by using CBM as fuel. Furthermore, degasification leads to a reduction of 30-40% in emissions and improves safety in coal mining.

Modeling and Complex Analysis of the Topology Parameters of Ventilation Networks When Ensuring Fire Safety While Developing Coal and Gas Deposits

Igor Ivanovich Bosikov et al.

Summary: Underground mining, particularly coal mining, is prone to accidents and fire hazards, posing risks to miners' safety. The risk of fire increases with mining depth, and most accidents in coal mines are currently mine fires. Developing a new methodology to model the ventilation network parameters of mines is crucial for enhancing control of gas atmosphere and ensuring safety. This study used probability theory and mathematical statistics to comprehensively analyze gas-dynamic processes in coal mines and developed a generalized expression for transfer functions of coal mine objects, considering delays and dynamic properties under different operating modes. The study also proposed a graphical method to estimate additional parameters of ventilation system branches and improved spatial modeling to determine gas-dynamic characteristics. Furthermore, a method for managing the process of changing connections between devices in the technical system was developed to enhance safety during mining.

A universal chemical-induced tensile strain tuning strategy to boost oxygen-evolving electrocatalysis on perovskite oxides

Daqin Guan et al.

Summary: This study introduces tensile strain into perovskite materials through a facile thermochemical reduction method, improving material performance in the oxygen-evolving reaction. By modulating solid-liquid tension, the hydrophobic perovskite is transformed into a hydrophilic one, enhancing the adsorption of hydroxyl reactants. Surface-sensitive and bulk-sensitive absorption spectra confirm the effectiveness of this strategy in introducing oxygen vacancies and transforming local structures. Theoretical computations reveal reduced energy barriers for hydroxyl adsorption and optimized electron transport.

Combined Corner-Sharing and Edge-Sharing Networks in Hybrid Nanocomposite with Unusual Lattice-Oxygen Activation for Efficient Water Oxidation

Haijuan Zhang et al.

Summary: This study synthesizes a unique self-assembled hybrid nanorod by combining corner-sharing and edge-sharing networks. The hybrid nanorod exhibits high electrocatalytic performance in oxygen-evolving reaction, attributed to the high Co valence and short distance between metal active sites. Multiple characterizations and computational studies reveal the important roles of edge-sharing units and corner-sharing motifs in lattice-oxygen mechanism and electron transport, respectively.
