Rocket-Triggered-Lightning Strikes to 10 kV Power Distribution Lines and Associated Measured Parameters of Lightning Current

Li Cai et al.

Summary: This article discusses an experiment on rocket-triggered lightning to 10 kV power distribution lines and analyzes the characteristics of lightning current. The study finds that the return strokes (RSs) current of the triggered-lightning flashes exhibits similarities to subsequent strokes current from natural lightning, and proposes the use of a double HEIDLER function for simulating RS current.

Analyzing lightning characteristics in central and southern South America

Elizabeth DiGangi et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the geographic variation of lightning characteristics using data from the Earth Networks Total Lightning Network. The results show significant differences in lightning characteristics in different regions, such as higher average peak current in Northern Argentina and a localized minimum in a specific region North of S??o Paulo, Brazil. The study also observes a higher proportion of positive cloud-to-ground lightning in Central and Northern Argentina compared to conventional thunderstorms.

Explosive Damages of Structures Due to Winter Lightning

Hidetoshi Ito et al.

Summary: This study conducted a survey on lightning damages in the Tohoku region of Japan from 2010 to 2019, and classified the damaged items based on infrastructure installation. Among them, explosive damages to historical buildings such as windowpanes and shoji, as well as walls and pillars of ordinary houses were confirmed. Due to the significant impact of explosive damages on buildings, the mechanism of damage occurrence was investigated, and the relationship between explosive damages and the properties of lightning was clarified.

A Total Lightning Activity Process and Parameter Characteristics at Pearl River Delta in China

Si Cheng et al.

Summary: The total lightning activity process lasting 5 hours on August 19, 2014 in the Pearl River Delta in China was analyzed. It was found that the variation of intra-cloud (IC) flashes and total lightning were synchronous, with over 96.69% of IC flashes occurring below 15 km in height.
