Molten Salt Driven Conversion Reaction Enabling Lithiophilic and Air-Stable Garnet Surface for Solid-State Lithium Batteries

Zhijie Bi et al.

Summary: Garnet-type electrolytes with high ionic conductivity and wide electrochemical window have great potential in solid-state lithium batteries. However, the formation of Li2CO3 on the surface of garnet due to air exposure leads to uneven contact with Li-metal and undesirable dendrite growth. This study proposes a promising solution by replacing the Li2CO3 contaminant with a Li3PO4 layer formed through a molten salt treatment. The modified garnet exhibits a stable air-stable interface and low interfacial resistance, enabling high-performance solid-state lithium batteries.
