3D Ordered Porous Nanostructure Confers Fast Charge Transfer Rate and Reduces the Electrode Polarization in Thick Electrode

Shengxuan Lin et al.

Summary: By fabricating a 3D ordered interconnected nanostructure in the electrode, electrode polarization in lithium batteries with high electrode thickness can be reduced, leading to improved performance. The nitrogen-doped carbon photonic crystal (NCPC) with the nanostructure allows for fast charge transfer rate and uniform distribution of electrons and lithium ions, diminishing concentration polarization and gradient.

Effect of Various Components on Time-Dependent Rheological Behavior of Cathode Slurries for Lithium-Ion Batteries

Bin Zhao et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the significant impact of carbon black, polymeric binders, and active material on the rheological properties of slurry, with viscosity increasing with the content of these components in steady-state tests, while yield stress only increases significantly with carbon black and polymer content. Transient tests show that increasing the content of carbon black, polymer, and active material leads to an increase in the destruction timescale and a decrease in the recovery timescale.

Concentration dependence of yield stress, thixotropy, and viscoelasticity rheological behavior of lithium-ion battery slurry

Bin Zhao et al.

Summary: This study investigates the concentration-dependent rheological behaviors of electrode slurry using various methods. The results show that the increase in slurry concentration enhances the bonding strength between particles, resulting in an increase in yield stress and thixotropy. The time scale of transient behavior during the creep process decreases with the increase in concentration. Additionally, both storage and loss modulus in oscillatory shear measurement are concentration-dependent.

Understanding slurry mixing effects on the fast charging capability of lithium-ion battery cells: Methodology and case study

Korbinian Huber et al.

Summary: The slurry preparation of graphite anodes has an important influence on their performance and fast charging capability. This study introduces a method that investigates the impact of slurry preparation on electrode properties and fast charging performance using an in-situ lithium plating detection technique. The results show that high intensity mixing leads to an increased electrode tortuosity, which in turn deteriorates the fast charging performance.

Kaifang Song et al.

Summary: Increasing areal active material loading by thick electrodes is an effective approach to improve the energy density of lithium-ion batteries, but may induce large polarization effects. This study demonstrates that dual-layered cathodes with CNTs and Super P can achieve high areal capacity and excellent capacity retention over cycles, providing a viable approach for improving the performance of thick electrodes.
