Staggered nickel-vanadium layered double hydroxide nanosheets on reduced graphene oxide via in-situ growth for enhanced supercapacitor performance

Qingcheng Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a composite material (Ni4V1-LDH@rGO25%) was fabricated by in-situ growth of nickel-vanadium layered double hydroxide (NiV-LDH) nanosheets perpendicularly staggered on the surface of reduced graphene oxide (rGO). The composite material exhibited enhanced electrochemical performances in supercapacitors due to its conductive skeleton and ion transport channels. The volumetric performance of the composite material was attributed to its specific surface area, voidage, and improved ion and electron transport capabilities. The use of rGO as the growth substrate improved the conductivity of the composite material and facilitated charge transfer between the LDH and graphene, thereby enhancing the capacitor performance.

SiO2 anchored stacked-petal structure CoO-NiO/CNF as electrodes for high-rate-performance supercapacitors

Jia Jia et al.

Summary: SiO2-modified carbon nanofibers (Si1-C) were prepared by electrospinning, and a fully encapsulated CoO-NiO (NiCo@Si1-C) was fabricated on Si1-C. CNF with SiO2 facilitated the formation of a CoO-NiO coating with a stacked petal structure, while nano-SiO2 acted as an anchor between NiO-CoO and CNF, enhancing the binding. NiCo@Si1-C exhibited a specific capacitance of 518.1 F g-1 at 0.5 A g-1, 2.25 times that of NiCo@Si0-C. It also showed a low capacitance decrease of 3.9% at a high current density of 50 A g-1, indicating excellent rate performance. Furthermore, an asymmetric supercapacitor device (NiCo@Si1-C//AC) achieved an energy density of 11.7 Wh kg -1 and a high power density of 14,000.7 W kg -1.

Advanced materials and technologies for supercapacitors used in energy conversion and storage: a review

M. I. A. Abdel Maksoud et al.

Summary: Supercapacitors are increasingly utilized in sustainable nanotechnologies for energy conversion and storage. Various materials, such as spinel ferrites, perovskite oxides, transition metals sulfides, carbon materials, and conducting polymers, are compared for supercapacitor fabrication. Transition metal sulfides, like ZnCo2S4, exhibit higher specific capacitance compared to transition metal oxides, due to low charge-transfer resistance and high ion diffusion rate. Composites of magnetic oxides or transition metal sulfides with conducting polymers or carbon materials show the highest capacitance activity and cyclic stability, attributed to oxygen and sulfur active sites that facilitate electrolyte penetration and create new active sites.
