Tuning the Catalytic Activity of Fe-Phthalocyanine-Based Catalysts for the Oxygen Reduction Reaction by Ligand Functionalization

Shuai Yuan et al.

Summary: In this study, carbon-supported Fe-phthalocyanine-based catalysts were functionalized to tune the electronic structures of the Fe center and the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalytic activity. The redox potential of Fe sites was shifted by different functional groups, and a linear relationship was observed between the Fe2+/3+ redox potential and the ORR activity.

The Interrelated Effect of Cations and Electrolyte pH on the Hydrogen Evolution Reaction on Gold Electrodes in Alkaline Media

Akansha Goyal et al.

Summary: Increasing the alkali metal cation concentration enhances the activity of the hydrogen evolution reaction on gold electrodes, while increasing the electrolyte pH indirectly affects the reaction activity by tuning the near-surface cation concentration. However, too high near-surface cation concentration can lead to a decrease in the reaction activity due to surface blockage.

The Significance of Properly Reporting Turnover Frequency in Electrocatalysis Research

Sengeni Anantharaj et al.

Summary: Turnover frequency (TOF) has long been used as an accurate indicator of the intrinsic activity of catalysts in electrocatalytic reactions, but is often not properly reported. While current density is significant in determining apparent activity, TOF can more accurately reflect intrinsic activity free from interfering phenomena, yet remains underused in electrocatalysis.

Mapping experimental and theoretical reactivity descriptors of fe macrocyclic complexes deposited on graphite or on multi walled carbon nanotubes for the oxidation of thiols: Thioglycolic acid oxidation

Ricardo A. Matute et al.

Summary: In this study, the electro-oxidation of thioglycolic acid catalyzed by FeN4 complexes was investigated on pyrolytic graphite and carbon nanotubes. The research established experimental and theoretical reactivity descriptors for MN4 macrocyclic complexes, demonstrating volcano correlations between activity and redox potential. Electron transfer from TGA to Fe center was observed, supporting the Maximum Hardness Principle in catalytic activities.

Enhancing the electrocatalytic activity of Fe phthalocyanines for the oxygen reduction reaction by the presence of axial ligands: Pyridine-functionalized single-walled carbon nanotubes

Maria Paz Oyarzun et al.

Summary: In this study, the electrocatalytic activity of FePc and 16(Cl)FePc for the oxygen reduction reaction was examined when adsorbed on SWCNT or py-SWCNT. The results showed that ORR activity is higher on py-SWCNT compared to SWCNT, and 16(Cl)FePc exhibited higher activity than FePc due to the electron-withdrawing effect of chlorine atoms.
