Azadirachtin exposure inhibit ovary development of Spodoptera litura (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) by altering lipids metabolism event and inhibiting insulin signaling pathways

Azadirachtin-based insecticide impairs testis morphology and spermatogenesis of the southern armyworm Spodoptera eridania (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of chronic exposure to azadirachtin on the morphology and ultrastructure of S. eridania larval testes as well as larval development. The results showed that azadirachtin damaged the testes of S. eridania larvae, compromising spermatogenesis and the reproductive potential of this species, making azadirachtin a promising botanical insecticide for integrated pest management programs.

Integrated Lipidomic and Transcriptomic Analysis Reveals Phospholipid Changes in Somatic Embryos of Picea asperata in Response to Partial Desiccation

Summary: Partial desiccation treatment (PDT) is an effective technology for promoting the germination and conversion of conifer somatic embryos (SEs). This study integrated lipidomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics analyses to reveal the molecular basis of lipid remodeling in Picea asperata SEs under PDT. Phosphatidic acid (PA) had a significant effect on SEs after PDT and was found to be the most critical lipid in the response to PDT. The activation of PLD alpha by PDT led to the increased PA content, which not only affected the physical and chemical properties of the cell membrane but also participated in plant hormone signal transduction. These findings provide insight into the molecular mechanism through which PDT promotes SE germination and fills the gap in understanding the mechanism of somatic embryo lipid remodeling in response to PDT.

This study examined the metabolic shift induced by CO2 in bumble bee gynes and its regulation. The results showed that CO2 treatment increased ovary activation in gynes and led to lower lipid amount in the fat body and higher glycogen and protein amount in the ovary. The metabolic shift induced by CO2 was independent of reproduction and mediated by juvenile hormone.
