An miR156-regulated nucleobase-ascorbate transporter 2 confers cadmium tolerance via enhanced anti-oxidative capacity in barley

Nian-Hong Wang et al.

Summary: Cadmium (Cd) is a detrimental heavy metal pollutant that has negative effects on crop production and human health. This study identified a Cd-induced miRNA, miR156g-3p_3, that targets HvNAT2 and found that overexpression of HvNAT2 enhances Cd tolerance and reduces oxidative damage in transgenic barley plants. This research provides valuable insights into the molecular mechanism of NAT in Cd tolerance and has implications for sustainable agricultural production and environmental management.

Mechanisms of As, Cd, Pb, and Zn hyperaccumulation by plants and their effects on soil microbiome in the rhizosphere

Michael O. Asare et al.

Summary: Excess potentially toxic elements (PTEs), including arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), and zinc (Zn), have detrimental effects on trophic levels. Using hyperaccumulators, plants that accumulate PTEs, is considered an effective approach for PTE removal from soils. This study discusses the principles of hyperaccumulation and the role of soil microbial communities in supporting this remediation method. The combination of hyperaccumulators and beneficial microbes enhances plant survival, minimizes metal toxicity, and promotes efficient cleaning of PTEs contaminated sites.

Fungal Seed Endophyte FZT214 Improves Dysphania ambrosioides Cd Tolerance Throughout Different Developmental Stages

Shobhika Parmar et al.

Summary: This study investigated the role of fungal seed endophyte FZT214 in improving Cd tolerance in Dysphania ambrosioides plants under different developmental stages and Cd stresses. The results showed that FZT214 significantly improved the growth of the host plant during the flowering and fruiting stage, as well as increasing seed yield and inducing early flowering. In addition, total chlorophyll content, antioxidant process, and lipid peroxidation were positively affected by the inoculation. The results suggest that FZT214 colonization triggers multiple protective strategies against Cd stress, including activation of dilution effects, induced biochemical changes, and alteration of endogenous phytohormones.
