Abamectin promotes behavior changes and liver injury in zebrafish

Keiza Priscila Enes dos Santos et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the effects of the pesticide abamectin on adult zebrafish through acute and chronic exposure. The results showed that abamectin caused morphological changes in the liver cells, decreased expression of HSP70 and P-gp, and affected the behavior patterns of the fish. This highlights the potential harm of indiscriminate pesticide use on non-target organisms.

Toxicity of avermectin to Eriocheir sinensis and the isolation of a avermectin-degrading bacterium, Ochrobactrum sp. AVM-2

Yubo Ma et al.

Summary: Avermectin has toxic effects on Eriocheir sinensis, leading to hepatopancreas damage and increased oxidative stress response. The degrading bacterium Ochrobactrum sp. AVM-2 can effectively reduce residual avermectin levels in E. sinensis, ensuring food safety.

Thirty years of rice-crab coculture in China-Research progress and prospects

Jie Bao et al.

Summary: Chinese mitten crab culture in rice paddy fields is a representative model of integrated agriculture-aquaculture systems developed in China. It has significant economic and ecological benefits compared to rice monoculture. Rice provides shelter for crabs and improves the aquatic environment, while crabs eliminate pests and weeds, reduce the need for chemicals, and stabilize rice production. Rice-crab coculture also helps protect biodiversity and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. However, further research is needed to standardize field engineering, optimize coculture modes, clarify crab nutritional needs, develop disease prevention methods, and understand the operational mechanism and exchange with the external environment.

Avermectin induces carp neurotoxicity by mediating blood-brain barrier dysfunction, oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis through PI3K/Akt and NF-kB pathways

Tianmeng Zhang et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the neurotoxic effects of avermectin on carp and discussed its possible mechanism. The results showed that avermectin can cause neuronal necrosis, blood-brain barrier disruption, oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis in carp. The study also found that NF-κB and PI3K/Akt signaling pathways are involved in this process.

Hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (HPND) in Chinese mitten crab Eriocheir sinensis tightly linked to low concentration of two insecticides

Guoqing Shen et al.

Summary: The study indicates that exposure to low concentrations of insecticides may lead to similar symptoms as HPND in Chinese mitten crabs, causing oxidative damage to the hepatopancreas. This suggests that chronic damage caused by insecticide residue could be a contributing factor to the development of HPND in crabs.
