Association of chromosomal abnormalities with prenatal exposure to heavy metals: A nested case-control study in high-risk pregnant women in China

Exposure to metals and metalloids among pregnant women from Spain: Levels and associated factors

Summary: The study in pregnant Spanish women found that arsenic, cobalt, molybdenum, antimony, selenium and zinc were the most detected metals, with zinc showing the highest concentrations and thallium showing the lowest concentrations. Significant associations were observed between metal concentrations and factors such as working situation, social class and age. Dietary intake of seafood, meat, fruits, nuts, vegetables and alcohol affected all metal levels. Proximity to industrial areas, fields and air pollution were related to metal exposure.

Prenatal blood levels of some toxic metals and the risk of spontaneous abortion

Summary: High-level toxic metal exposure has become rare in recent years, but it is still unclear whether relatively lower exposure may adversely affect the human reproductive system.
