An investigation on the influence of highly acidic media on the microstructural stability and dye adsorption performance of UiO-66

Kamyar Mirzaei et al.

Summary: The stability of UiO-66 in 1M HCl solution was investigated using various characterization techniques, and it was found that the structure of UiO-66 experienced partial breakdown but maintained its main structure and acceptable stability. Exposure to HCl solution led to missing-linker defects in the structure. The adsorption performance of acid-aged UiO-66 nanoparticles towards methyl orange (MO) dye showed a significant decrease in dye adsorption capacity compared to as-synthesized UiO-66.

Functional porous Ce-UiO-66 MOF@Keratin composites for the efficient adsorption of trypan blue dye from wastewater: A step towards practical implementations

Vinayak Hegde et al.

Summary: In recent years, porous metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and biopolymer-based materials have been widely used as adsorbents for wastewater purification. However, they have some drawbacks such as stability concerns, recovery difficulty, and high synthetic cost. To overcome these limitations, a novel porous composite of keratin biopolymer and cerium MOF (Ce-UiO-66 MOF) was designed for the treatment of dye-contaminated wastewater. The designed composite showed excellent removal efficiency and adsorption capacity, as well as promising performance in the presence of interfering ions, real-time sample analysis, and recyclability.

Room temperature aqueous synthesis of Ce(IV)-MOFs with UiO-66 architecture and their photocatalytic decarboxylative oxygenation of arylacetic acids

Hong-Guang Jin et al.

Summary: Cerium(IV)-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have gained attention due to their potential in redox catalysis and photocatalysis, but the synthetic pathways are mainly solvothermal. Research on photocatalysis of Ce(IV)-MOFs is still in its early stages. We have developed a sustainable and green synthetic route for nanocrystalline Ce(IV)-MOFs with the UiO-66 structure. These MOFs showed promising photocatalytic activity for the decarboxylative oxygenation under blue light-emitting diodes (LEDs) irradiation and air.

Room temperature synthesis of high-quality Ce(IV)-based MOFs in water

Jemal M. Yassin et al.

Summary: This study explores the outstanding ability of Ce(IV) to prepare high-quality MOFs based on carboxylates at room temperature without energy input and in water as solvent. Various new approaches were used to successfully synthesize crystalline terephthalate-based UiO66(Ce), fumarate-based UiO-66(Ce) and Ce-MOF-808 at room temperature. These novel, rapid, simple, reproducible, inexpensive, energetically efficient, and environmentally benign methodologies provide new strategies for the preparation of tetravalent metal based MOFs, which are generally scarce compared to the whole number of known MOFs, particularly at room temperature.

Arman Bayat et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the enhancement of dye removal capacity of CP by adding a novel PANI/SiO2 nanostructure (PSn). Results showed successful chemical grafting of SiO2 on PANI nanoparticles, increased adsorption capacity after adding PSn, and uniform dispersibility of PSn in CP nanofibers. Thermodynamic studies confirmed a spontaneous adsorption process with good recovery rates after multiple cycles using a sodium hydroxide solution.
