Study on the dissipation pattern and risk assessment of metalaxyl-M in rice grains and paddy soil and water by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry

Yahui He et al.

Summary: In this study, field experiments were conducted to investigate the residual levels and dissipation kinetics of metalaxyl-M in rice grains, paddy soil, and water in different regions of China. A reliable method using LC-MS/MS was developed for detection, which showed the analyte degrades relatively quickly in the environment. The results suggest that the dietary risk associated with metalaxyl-M treated rice is minimal for both human health and the environment.

Zixi Zhao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the dissipation behaviors of epoxiconazole and pyraclostrobin in wheat samples collected from different climate regions, providing data for potential modification of maximum residue limits. The results showed that both fungicides dissipated following first-order kinetics, with terminal residues in wheat below the maximum residue limits recommended by China, suggesting low dietary risk to consumers.

Enantioselective toxicity and mechanism of chiral fungicide penflufen based on experiments and computational chemistry

Shanshan Di et al.

Summary: Penflufen fungicide, commonly used as a racemate, poses potential ecological risks to aquatic organisms. This study found that the enantioselective toxicity of penflufen enantiomers differs significantly, with S-(+)-penflufen showing higher toxicity than R-(-)-penflufen towards Danio rerio and Rhizoctonia solani. The coexistence of R-(-)-penflufen can increase exposure risks, demonstrating the importance of understanding the enantioselective difference in chiral pesticides.

Summary: This study investigated the residual status of four chiral pesticides in agricultural soils in China, showing enantiomer/stereoisomer-specific residues for metalaxyl and triticonazole. The results suggest that enantiomer/stereoisomer-specific risk should be considered when assessing the ecological safety of these pesticides in soils.

Cumulative risk assessment of dietary exposure to triazole fungicides from 13 daily-consumed foods in China*

Kai Cui et al.

Summary: The routine use of triazole fungicides on crops has shown agroeconomic benefits for over 40 years. However, residues of triazoles are found in various foods, posing a potential health risk to humans. A study in China found that while most food samples contained triazoles, the overall chronic and acute exposure risk was low. Children faced a greater dietary exposure risk, particularly in mandarin, grape, and cucumber.

A review on the stereospecific fate and effects of chiral conazole fungicides

Lucie Bielska et al.

Summary: The production and use of chiral pesticides are driven by the need for more complex molecules to combat a wider range of pests and crop diseases, but the fate and effects of these pesticides, particularly conazole fungicides, are not fully understood. Research on the stereoselective behavior and effects of chiral pesticides like CFs is crucial in the fields of environmental chemistry and ecotoxicology to better understand their environmental implications and guide future research and development.

z Enantioselective residues and toxicity effects of the chiral triazole fungicide hexaconazole in earthworms (Eisenia fetida)

Tong Liu et al.

Summary: The study revealed significant enantioselective degradation of hexaconazole in artificial soil, with the S-enantiomer showing higher acute toxicity in earthworms than the R-enantiomer. The transcriptome sequencing results indicated that S-HEX had a more pronounced impact on various biological functions than R-HEX, suggesting a higher risk to soil organisms. These findings highlight the importance of assessing environmental risks of chiral pesticides at the enantiomeric level.

Prevalence of Azole-Resistant Aspergillus fumigatus is Highly Associated with Azole Fungicide Residues in the Fields

Duantao Cao et al.

Summary: The study found a potential link between residues of azole fungicides in soil and the emergence of resistant Aspergillus fumigatus (RAF). The prevalence of RAFs was positively correlated with residual levels of azole fungicides in soils, suggesting that the use of azole fungicides in agriculture should be minimized to reduce selective pressure on A. fumigatus resistance.
