NAD Supplement Alleviates Intestinal Barrier Injury Induced by Ethanol Via Protecting Epithelial Mitochondrial Function

Wenli Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of nicotinamide riboside (NR) on ethanol-induced intestinal barrier dysfunction and the underlying mechanisms using a mouse model and Caco-2 cells. The results showed that NR supplementation can alleviate ethanol-induced intestinal barrier damage through activation of SirT1 and maintenance of mitochondrial function.

The Role of Gut-Derived Lipopolysaccharides and the Intestinal Barrier in Fatty Liver Diseases

Lingxuan An et al.

Summary: Hepatosteatosis is the earliest stage in the pathogenesis of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and alcoholic liver disease, strongly linked with obesity. Gut dysbiosis and gut barrier dysfunction crucially contribute to the development of chronic liver disease. Treatments targeting the gut microbiome and gut barrier have shown potential benefits in attenuating liver inflammation.

Vitamin C alleviates alcoholic liver injury by suppressing neutrophil infiltration in senescence marker protein 30-knockout mice irrespective of its antioxidant effects

Su-Min Baek et al.

Summary: This study found that vitamin C significantly alleviated ethanol-mediated liver disease in vitamin C-deficient ethanol-fed mice group by suppressing neutrophil infiltration and reducing CD68-positive cell infiltration. The attenuating effect of vitamin C on neutrophil infiltration in the liver is associated with its protective effect on ethanol-mediated intestinal damage in vitamin C-deficient ethanol-fed mice.

Oral Supplementation of β-Carotene Benefits the Hepatic Structure and Metabolism in Mice (Mus musculus) Exposed to A Chronic Ethanol Consumption

Cristian Sandoval et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of oral supplementation with beta-carotene on the liver of mice exposed to ethanol consumption. The results showed that beta-carotene improved metabolic and biochemical markers, and also had positive effects on hepatic parenchyma and structural damage.

Potential human health risks due to environmental exposure to nano-and microplastics and knowledge gaps: A scoping review

Arifur Rahman et al.

Summary: Microplastics are an emerging global environmental contaminant that may have negative impacts on human health through various pathways such as metabolic disturbances, neurotoxicity, and increased cancer risk. Currently, little is known about the effects of microplastics on human health, and further research is needed to quantify their impacts and pathogenesis.
