Assessment of future water demand and supply using WEAP model in Dhasan River Basin, Madhya Pradesh, India

Shreya Nivesh et al.

Summary: Understanding available resources and user needs is crucial for the evaluation and allocation of water resources. This study aims to develop an integrated water resource management system for the Dhasan River Basin (DRB) using scenario analysis and the Water Evaluation and Planning Model (WEAP). The findings indicate that population growth, industrial development, and increased agricultural area will significantly increase water demand by 2050. Implementing improved irrigation technologies, advancing agricultural practices, and constructing water conservation structures can help reduce unmet demands and shortfalls in the DRB.

Impact of wood-derived biochar on the hydrologic performance of bioretention media: Effects on aggregation, root growth, and water retention

Derya Akpinar et al.

Summary: Bioretention systems, a type of green stormwater infrastructure, can help mitigate the impact of stormwater runoff. By adding biochar to conventional bioretention soil media, the soil structure can be improved, leading to increased water retention and stormwater infiltration, as well as better root growth.

The change detection in coastal settlements using image processing techniques: a case study of Korfez

Gulenay Sahin et al.

Summary: The land use patterns in Korfez province have undergone significant changes, with a decrease in agricultural lands and sea areas, and an increase in forest-green areas, settlement areas, and lake areas. These data can serve as important inputs for coastal and physical development planning, facilitating sustainable land use decisions.

Evaluation of comparing urban area land use change with Urban Atlas and CORINE data

Talha Aksoy et al.

Summary: This study utilized UA data and CORINE data, as well as NDVI analysis, to examine land use and changes in Eskisehir, Turkey from 2012 to 2018. The results showed a 17.65% increase in artificial surfaces and an 18.32% increase in agricultural lands, natural lands, forests, and vegetation. Although there were differences between the analysis results based on CORINE data and UA data, the use of UA data in urban planning still had advantages. This study is important for monitoring urban changes and implementing European Council policies.

Estimation of the water footprint of kiwifruit: in the areas transferred from hazelnut to kiwi

Gulsah Bilge Ozturk et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of converting hazelnut fields to kiwi orchards on water consumption in Ordu, Turkey. The results show that this conversion significantly increases the green and blue water footprint of kiwifruit, exacerbating water scarcity in the area.

Influence of meteorological drought on environmental flows in mountain catchments

Dariusz Mlynski et al.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between meteorological drought and e-flow releases in eight catchments of southern Poland. The results showed a significant decreasing trend in streamflow rate in the Skawa sub-basin, while an increasing trend was observed in the Biala and Sekowka catchments of the Dunajec sub-basin. The study demonstrated the potential of SPI and PNI indices as helpful tools in water resources management and planning, particularly in predicting the impact of droughts on e-flows deficit.

Analysis of driving forces on wetland ecosystem services value change: A case in Northeast China

Fei Song et al.

Summary: The study showed that in the wetlands of Northeast China, the value of provisioning services and cultural services increased significantly, while the value of regulating services and supporting services decreased. The overall ESV of wetlands increased by 7.31 x 10(22) sej, with a growth rate of 127.73%. The most significant factors driving ESV changes were the wetland supporting factor, per capita GDP factor, and protection investment factor.

Ecosystem service value evaluation method in a complex ecological environment: A case study of Gansu Province, China

Xiaojiong Zhao et al.

Summary: This study established a value evaluation model based on regional differences using Gansu Province as an example, showing that the total ESV reached 2239.56 billion yuan in 2015, with forest and grassland ecosystems contributing the most. Local climate regulation and biodiversity maintenance are the main service functions, and from 2000 to 2015, ESV increased by 3.43 billion yuan, with forest and urban ecosystems increasing in value while cultivated land ecosystems decreased. Areas experiencing value reduction gradually moved from the central part of the province to the surrounding areas.

Impacts of Human Activities on Ecosystem Service Value in Arid and Semi-Arid Ecological Regions of China

Xin Fan et al.

Summary: The study revealed spatiotemporal variations in the characteristics of ecosystem value in arid and semi-arid ecological regions of China and its interaction with human activities. Results showed an increase in total ecosystem service value over the years, with fluctuations in value provided by forest land and grassland. There was a decrease in human footprint patches and an increase in high human footprint index areas, mainly due to rapid urbanization and railway network improvements. Spatial dependencies between changes in ecosystem service value and human footprint index were recorded, providing a scientific basis for ecosystem regulation and land development in these regions.

Landscape Evolution and It's Impact of Ecosystem Service Value of the Wuhan City, China

Ru Chen et al.

Summary: The study reveals that land use changes in Wuhan mainly include decreases in farmland, forestland, and bare land, and increases in built-up land and water bodies. The reduction in farmland due to urban expansion is being compensated for by the reclamation of ecological land, but the loss of ecosystem service values is still aggravating.

Mengzhu Liu et al.

Summary: Revegetation projects in the agro-pastoral ecotone of northern China have led to significant changes in land use and ecosystem service values, with forestland expansion and grassland shrinkage dominating the landscape changes. Future revegetation projects have the potential to generate more forestland and increase ecosystem service values in the region.
