A highly selective and sensitive europium-organic framework sensor for the fluorescence detection of fipronil in tea

Xinfang Liu et al.

Summary: A europium-based metal organic framework (Eu-TFPA-MOF) was used for the fluorescence detection of fipronil in green tea and oolong tea with high sensitivity, selectivity, and a wide linear range. The fluorescence quenching mechanism was mainly attributed to static quenching process and competitive absorption of excitation energy. Furthermore, a smartphone-assisted test strip was developed for the visual detection of fipronil in real tea samples, providing a simple and low-cost solution for tea quality safety.

A smartphone-based visual ratiometric fluoroprobe for rapid and sensitive detection hypochlorous acid based on dual-emission metal organic frameworks

Guixin Wang et al.

Summary: Here, we developed a mixed fluorescence system using europium metal-organic framework (EDB) and zinc metal-organic framework (ZBNB). The system exhibited dual emissions at 425 and 615 nm under 270-nm excitation wavelength, and displayed blue solution under a 365-nm UV lamp. Upon addition of hypochlorous acid (HOCl), the blue emission at 425 nm decreased while the red emission at 615 nm remained stable. The fluorescence quenching of ZBNB at 425 nm was attributed to dynamic quenching effect caused by the interaction between -NH3+ and ClO-.

One-dimensional Europium-coordination polymer as luminescent sensor for highly selective and sensitive detection of 2,4,6-trinitrophenol

Yanzhu Liu et al.

Summary: Three isostructural lanthanide coordination polymers have been synthesized and characterized for their potential use in detecting nitro explosives. Among them, LnCP 2 shows strong luminescence in solid states and high sensitivity in detecting TNP. This study represents the first example of using formyl group as hydrogen-bonding site in Eu-based sensors for TNP detection.

Hollow terbium metal-organic-framework spheres: preparation and their performance in Fe3+ detection

Xiaozhan Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, hollow terbium MOFs were successfully synthesized using specific organic ligands and a competitive ligand. It was found that the competitive ligand played a crucial role in the formation of the hollow structure. The hollow terbium MOFs were also demonstrated to be effective luminescent probes for detecting Fe3+ in water and DMF solutions.

Recent advances in cation sensing using aggregation-induced emission

Ming Hui Chua et al.

Summary: The discovery of the aggregation-induced emission (AIE) phenomenon two decades ago revolutionized our understanding of organic luminogens aggregation and led to breakthroughs in various applications, especially in chemical sensing. This paper reviews recent advances in AIE-based chemosensors for detecting a wide range of cations, summarizing the design strategies, sensing mechanisms, and performance. The challenges and opportunities in the field of AIE-based chemosensors for cations are also discussed.
